Notifications From Routines

This has probably been covered somewhere in this vast forum, but I can’t find it.

I set up the standard routines for a friend. I set the routines to notify when they are run. If the routine is executed automatically from another source, such as a switch or keypad, the notifications work fine. If the routine is executed directly, such as the button on the routine or a widget, the notifications don’t work.

I was able to work around this but was wondering if this is normal behavior?

The in app routine button or phone widget provides a check mark if the routine executes. I believe it does an X if it fails.

I think the idea is you don’t need a push notification if you physically executed it yourself.

But I have experienced when someone else in my household executes a routine manually - I don’t get a notification - and that is annoying.

You are right there are easy work arounds though.

Did you check the logs?

Check the logs for what?

Issues or errors when the routine runs

Why would there be any errors if it is doing what it is supposed to do?

Yeah, that’s what I meant. OP is describing expected (but annoying) behavior in the app, as @greg explained.

I was saying that OP might see something that will help track down the issue.

I don’t think there is really an issue here. If it was designed such that the notifications don’t occur if the routine is executed manually, then there is no error.

My original question was whether that was the design intent.

Thanks to all for the insights and suggestions.
