Nest or Ecobee3

Yes I have the C wire kit that I will use since all I have is 2 wires. I initially bought the Sensi cause at that time I was just getting into HA and that was the thermostat that was clearly advertised that no C wire was needed.
Btw a C wire can be added with a 24v transformer according to Sensi documentation.

Well guys I got it installed. Just start to run my schedule so let’s see how it does.

Sweet!!! I love it. Will add it to Alexa now and see how that works.

Welcome to the EcoBuzz

Working great with Siri and Alexa. Will do StrykerSKS open source device/smartapp for ST tomorrow

Too bad I can’t even add it to my Hub right now since I can’t log into my app.

I filled out the National Grid $50 rebate online. They asked for a mac address. Fine. I gave it to them. Six weeks later I get something in the mail asking for the UPC. There isn’t one. I scanned the bottom of the box and gave them lots of screen shots from Ecobee and my router. We’ll see. I doubt I’ll ever see the $50.

The only rebates I’ve been able to get reliably are the Home Depot paint rebates they run on major holidays. . . .

Finally got everything working properly. I really like the Ecobee3 a bit more than my Nest now. I think I’ll be sticking with this. Those sensor are a bit high priced though.

Yeah I like it. What’s bugging me though is I picked up a outdoor nestcam today so I have 3 smoke detectors and the cam and the nest thermostat just sitting there doing nothing

You can join the VIBees ( Ecobee beta tester and advanced user group) and earn points you can use to get them. No more referral points, so I’ll just post the link here for all to see.
https://vibee.ecobee.com/

Thanks for the link. I sent off a request asking for an invite.

Took me a week or 2 to get the invite link, but that was over the holidays and they also had referral bonuses looking for new members going on.

They emailed me back within 10 minutes asking for my serial number so they could send me the invite link. Now just waiting on that part.

I got same email, it was the actual invite that took a while to get.

Oh well, I’ll just sit here and see which comes first. The invite for ActionTiles or VIBee haha.

I bought too much so am thinking of getting rid of 2, will let you know

Tried the Nest last night but went back to Ecobee. I like the Bee better. Guess I found my thermostat.

The one easy thing I miss about my nest was I didn’t really deal with any scheduling inside Nest because my schedule changes every day and week. I liked the fact when I came home or left, it turned the temp to a set point. M-F at a certain time at night, the temp changed to how I want it for when I sleep. I set this all up with ST. One of the things I really liked about Ecobee, was at night, I could just have the A/C or furnace come on based on the temp sensor in my bedroom. Ecobee tech told me I can’t do this based on using ST to set the temp based off arrival/leave or anything. An outside app will overwrite a schedule in Ecobee until you dismiss it on the Ecobee. This makes no sense to me. With it’s integration of Home Kit, It should allow my phone to tell it when I’m home and away. Home in HomeKit should equal Home setting in Ecobee as well as Away equals Away. It doesn’t do that. So they tell me the only way I can use the sleep seting as I would like to to manually dismiss the box on the screen when the temp is set from an outside app. Seems crazy to me the app does not have built in locations for your device.

The ecobee tech was correct if you’re using the stock ST connection methods… but he wasn’t totally right for ST overall. Check out the DTH & Smartapps by @StrykerSKS. I use this in combination with ST mode triggers to drive my ecobee. My ecobee mode is manipulated between Home/Away/Sleep based on the mode of ST. Turns off when both phones leave the geofence, turns back on when we return, and goes to sleep when the house does. Been using it for over a year and it works really well!
