Mommy is too hot! (Nest Meltdown)

This is the who-came-first-the-chiken-or-the-egg argument of HA providers.

Speaking of that. Just got a message from ST that it couldn’t connect to my Ecobee. Ecobee app can’t connect and can’t login on the web either. Everything else seems to be working. Anyone else?

Can’t get to ecobee, ooooh nooo mommy!

I can disconnect my internet, and have no issues. That being said, it is true, that I would not be able to control it through the phone app, with the internet offline.

See comments above where people (and many reports) show that the devices automation failed, and even showed them in ā€œAuto Awayā€, etc. I read online others that had issues seperate from the app as well, and the article also says that automation was affected by it. Behaviors that are unique to Nest, and would not occur on an Ecobee.

SmartThings integration? or someone else’s?

I use one of @StrykerSKS apps called Ecobee Connect. It does seem to be with Ecobee as i cannot get to the login from any point. ST, Ecobee app, nor their website are giving me the ability.

Edi: It just came back online. Don’t know what happened. May have had a power surge or something.

I was able to log in to the Ecobee site a few seconds ago, but it states that all my Ecobees are offline :unamused:

… and mommy is no where to be found …

Yeah, Ecobee login and APIs are offline at the moment. I’ve pinged Ecobee to see what is going on.

Just saying. Can’t access my Ecobee 3 via web, iPad, smarttiles or Alexa. It worked 3 hours ago, tried to lower the air 1 degree. Just went to the actual thermostat to lower it which worked.

All of my other wifi stuff is working. I’m not an expert on this stuff. Gonna just wait to see if it works tomorrow.

ghosts? poltergeists? Or, have the Russians hacked all of our smart thermostats? ( I should say, I’m just trying to be funny, nothing political)

I’d say Ecobeegeists … but I have faith in the Ecobee folks to expunge the geists.

I’ll have to re-authorize Ecobee (Connect) when I get home … no data network connection where I’m currently at :unamused:

Ecobee may recover automatically once they fix their cloud stuff (assuming you are using my code). Right now it wouldn’t help to re-authorize since their stuff is down.

Okay, mine just starting showing up as Online on the Ecobee web client. So I checked my device in SmartThings and it autorecovered as expected. So might just need to give it some time to propogate.

If you were using your phone to set your presence that would make sense that it won’t update. Easy fix, turn on you HVAC. The article was wrong, Nest does not need internet connection to function. It even updated itself with ā€œthe issue is not as bad as it seemsā€

What does the Ecobee status page say?

FYI - Ecobee is reporting they came back online ~30 min ago

So, you are making an assumption to peoples experience though, and referencing ā€œnot as bad as it seemsā€ to interpret it as only a presence detection issue. That’s an assumption… but that is fine—I have probably done the same in various ways as well.

That being said, it does no good to continue to argue this, and is definitely deviating from the thread’s intention significantly. Enjoy your nest! Your definitely a huge fan of them.

The irony of an Ecobee owner saying never had an issue like nest then bam! same problems as Nest.

Well Said.
Even though it’s pretty clear you have bias against Nest.

I will be honest if @desertblade hadn’t shown me there was an interest for Nest it’s likely Nest Manager wouldn’t exist and I would already have installed an Ecobee. This wasn’t because I had issues with my nest because I’ve had my v2 for almost 3 years with no issues. It’s one of the most stable devices in my home (there is a lot). I just hated how much Nest restricts their API and I wanted to integrate with ST

This right here is why this forum is 1000x better than actual customer service. My Ecobee went offline and when I tried to reconnect it came back with " sorry your wifi password is incorrect" . I contacted Ecobee ( after resetting router and modem ) and got the usual BS boiler plate about there being NO ISSUES and that I should powercycle my router or create a hotspot with my phone and then try connecting again. Even although I told them in the email I had already power cycled my router several times and even done a factory reset of the thermostat. Tried connecting to a different SSID and still got the same result.
I like my Ecobees, but their CS is a ( not funny) joke.
