I have the same problem. The location doesn’t work on s21 and s23+ either

thanks i have done this all step by step. my location is manually set as it always has been , i also tried to move the location away and then back to the proper location ( saving and exiting each time i move it) wife has her own account, wife has full access to everything and always has. disabled and reenabled her location access and verified on the web add that her phone shows up and then disappears each time. i also tried deleting her phone from the web app and then re adding it on her app. wife’s phone is on latest version of smartthings and android also. and this is not a new rule it has worked fine for over 5 years and just stopped 2 weeks ago. it worked 1 more time about 10 days ago then never again. it doesn’t register he leaving or arriving . but samsung find can show her phone location , but generally its not updated. but even manually refreshing samsung find doesn’t change her location in smartthings. samsung app has location always on, and precise location, its allowed to run in background with no power saving. but its really broken .

this gives me some comfort that maybe they created a bug with a recent update if it its not only me effected by it then maybe they will fix it but who knows how long i’ll have to wait.

A few thoughts:

  • When you look at your wife’s phone device in the web app, is the presence attribute stuck on one of present or not present? I suspect they may have improved things but historically I found that mobile presence seemed to be set up to only trigger events on changes. So if the departure wasn’t detected the arrival didn’t trigger anything either even though it worked (and vice versa).
  • Have you tried setting up any ‘Linked Places’, as the app calls them, for other places your wife visits regularly to see how things behave there? They are rather buried in the three dot overflow menu when managing a Location in the app.
  • Have you tried setting up a home/household in Google Home with just your wife as a member and enabling presence sensing on that? It would be interesting to see if the Home/Away detection works there.
  • Like many users I never use SmartThings mobile presence directly. I always use it to set a virtual device using automations, and then use that virtual device in automations. That at least gives me manual override.

Hi from what i can see its showing no value in the presence attribute at all. in the attributes of that device it shows 2 items 1 called main and 1 with a long set of numbers as the name. both have the attribute presence with no value. i’m trying to keep this in smartthings for now as i don’t want to add more complexity and confusion.

Its still not working i have no idea what caused it , amazing how a feature that worked for years can suddenly just stop with no logical reason.

i tried reaching out to the local samsung support here and they were clueless. is there someone in the community here that could tag someone who could actually get me some support ?

@Michael_ST is it possible you can get someone to assist with this? i have been round and round on the support chat of the app for days with no results. mostly because they keep transferring me to TV support, then washing machine support and finally soundbar support ??? its nuts.

I’m having the exact same problem, I’ve already checked all the solutions I found. My Zfold 7 isn’t working. Meanwhile, iPhones are working fine.

Two PresenceSensor attributes are appearing.

@nayelyz Can you help?

Hi @Patrick_Duarte

Here are some steps recommended by the engineering team that might help re-establish the connection:

  1. Go to Advanced Users app > devices and find the record of your phone, the type must be “mobile”
  2. Turn off the option of “Get your location from this phone” (Menu > Settings)
  3. Verify if the record of the mobile device was deleted in Advanced Users App. If not, please delete it directly
  4. Go to your mobile device’s settings and verify that the SmartThings app has access to your location information (for example: settings > apps > app managment > SmartThings > permissions > “allow all the time”)
  5. In the ST app enable the option “Get your location from this phone” again.
  6. After this, collect the app logs just in case because they are lost after 2 or less minutes.
  7. Take note of the timestamp to be able to get the Cloud logs in case if fails again.

This is to create a fresh “link” between the ST App and your mobile’s phone location info. The engineering team mentioned the app is the one that determines the state of “present”/“not present”. So, it might not be getting the correct info to do so.

Hi and thanks a lot for these explanations ! could you explain where and how collect the log ?

thanks

Hi @Benoit_Signorini

Before sending the logs, could you please provide a bit more context about the issue you’re experiencing? A brief description of what you’re seeing and when it happens will help us better understand the problem and determine which logs we’ll need.

Thanks a lot for you feedback,

I’m trying to configure Home Monitor.

All is working correctly, when I quit my house the system is arming and when I come back it disabled.

But I encountered only issue with the Smartphone of my daughter. It only detects location when I use the “Get your location from this phone” option disable then re-enable. It works but if she left our house the value attribute in Smartthing Advanced (Web) is always set to “present” until we re-use the “Get your location from this phone”.

On the Smartphone Location is enable,

Localisation Permission too

Smartthing is running at the start

Smartthing process No Restriction Battery etc…

This is the reason why I’m trying to debug. I’ve installed just smartthing.exe command prompt for that but not sure if it’s the correct way.

OUr Smartphone Xiaomi Redmi note 12

thanks a lot

Hi @Benoit_Signorini, thanks a lot for the detailed explanation.

To help us investigate the issue, could you please collect the following information:

  1. App logs right after using the option “Get your location from this phone”
  2. App logs when you arrive home and the location is still shown as “present” incorrectly.
  3. The exact timestamp (date, time, and time zone) when you arrive home and the status does not update as expected.

This information will help us correlate the behavior with the logs and better understand why the presence is not refreshing automatically

Mobile logs Android

  1. Go to Menu > Gear Icon > About SmartThings
  2. Tap the SmartThings logo 10 times.
  3. This will open the developer’s space > tap ‘report a problem’
  4. This will send you to the report page. Select a frequency and write a short description of the issue.
  5. Click on “Report” and a log file will be generated for you to send over email, please do to build@smartthings.com

Hi @Benoit_Signorini

Is the issue still ongoing, or has it been resolved?

Hi thanks a lot,

yes it has been solved, in fact it was a dedicated Location App provide by Xiaomi which cause the problem, now all is ok

thanks a lot

Hi @Patrick_Duarte

Having exact same issue, now all my geofence based routines stop working, both leaving and coming home.

There’s definitely something changed in the SmartThings app, it used to work perfectly, now no matter what I do it just doesn’t trigger.

Update: fixed the issue with deactivating all of the mobile presence devices and activating again.

You’ll find a multitude of threads and posts about geolocation issues with the SmartThings app scattered thru the forums. Both iOS and Android phones have periodic issues. Sometimes deleting and recreating the mobile presence devices works, sometimes it only works for a while.

In my case, on my Pixel phone, the Google Home presence automations for my Google Nest cameras have been 100% reliable while SmartThings ones were flakey.

I eventually switched to a virtual presence sensor which I switch on and off using Alexa geofencing routines. That has been very nearly perfect.

The other advantage of Alexa geofencing is that it allows multiple routines. So I have one which fences just my property for normal home/away automations. And I’ve got a second one with a radius of about 50 miles that triggers some “we’re traveling” automations.
