How does the Phone Presence sensing work?

I am new to the community. I want to troubleshoot an issue with my Phone Presence always showing that I am Present even when I am far away from Home.

At home, I have 2 routers. I am connecting the SmartThings Hub to the WAN router. I am suspecting that somehow the SmartThings Hub remembered the MAC/IP address of my phone, which is actually the LAN router which my phone is connected to. So even though my phone is far away, the Hub still think that I am present because the LAN router is always talking.

Can someone explain to me how Phone Presence is detected?

The new app doesn’t work well for me. Some devices are missing.
