Greetings - I’m new here, and fairly new to the wireless security/home automation world. I have a hard-wired system, and installed a Honeywell 5800C2W conversion, and a Lynx Touch 5100 control panel with both Z-wave and Wifi modules. I have two GE light switches for automation. I got it all working as described…but of course Honeywell doesn’t tell you that you MUST have an account with them to use it remotely. 10$/month for security, $20 for inclusion of the home automation components. Joy. I saw comments from many about this - and then discovered the rapidly growing world that is well represented here - wireless control that is free and does not require monitoring.
SO…I’m very interested in the new SmartThings Hub 2.0. But it doesn’t look like there is a readily available solution yet to interfacing with older hardwired systems. I’ve reviewed a couple of posts via searching and it looks like someone may be working on it. I didn’t put this in the “suggest a device” because I have some questions:
-
Is there a way to interface with a hardwired system IF they are represented in a wireless fashion - like with the 5800C2W? I would be happy to be a guinea pig and help research!
-
Does this have to go through the Lynx Touch 5100 panel, since that has the wifi module - or would it be direct connect? I ask because I wonder if the “wireless” method for the 5800c2w is proprietary.
-
Why is the SmartThings Hub 2.0 not for sale on Amazon? Just curious.
Kind regards - James
