FX Luminaire Luxor Landscape Lights [edge driver link in post 24]

Nvm. Its taken some time, but now seems to be working just fine. Perhaps network delay originally.

Just checking in here after a few years to see if anyone has an edge driver? (Our deck lights are solely smartthings controlled, so they aren’t working anymore.)

Following up here, I took 3 days and wrote a very simple driver for controlling my own FX Luminaire lights.

I can’t say if this will work for everyone, but you are welcome to try.

Basic instructions:

  1. Enroll and add the driver to your hub (link above)
  2. Wait a few seconds
  3. Add a device by scanning for devices in the smartthings app
  4. A new device called Luxor Controller 1 will appear in the room with your hub
  5. In settings for the Luxor Controller (three dots > settings), set the ip address for your controller
  6. As soon as you save the updated IP address, the driver will download a list of groups from the controller and will create a new light switch for each group returned.
  7. That should be all. Note: changes made outside of the app are checked and updated every 20min. You can also manually force a refresh as well by just dragging down from the top while a switch is selected.
  8. If you need more than one controller, you can spawn new copies from the settings menu of any existing controller object.

[Edit: I realized that I could use settings interaction as a device-factory, eliminating an extra object. Directions above adjusted.]

To those who are following this topic or find it later,

Hello @jpstewart. Thank you for this project.

Do you know if this will work on the Luxor 300? I installed it, assigned the IP, turned off “spawn additional controllers”, and then I just see two options On and Off Monetary buttons. They don’t seem to function. If the 300 isn’t supported, then that would make sense.

When I go to the IP (no https) in my browser, I see this. Not sure if you see the same thing?

Hi.

  • The “Spawn additional controllers” “switch” is only momentary and just allows you to duplicate the controller object in smart things in case you have more than one controller. For single controllers, you’ll never need to use it.
  • Yes, on the controller object itself, it will only have two momentary buttons for controlling all of the lights.
  • The real test for whether your controller is supported is if you send it a post request for the groups. There isn’t a great way to do this from a browser, but if you have a windows device, you can launch powershell and run the following command from a powershell prompt. (Replace the ip in the url with your luxor controller ip.)

Invoke-RestMethod -Uri http://192.168.X.X/GroupListGet.json -Method Post

This command should return something like:

Status GroupList
------ ---------
     0 {@{Name=Bench; Grp=1; Inten=0; Colr=0}, @{Name=Pergola 4; Grp=2; Inten=0; Colr=0}, @{Name=Pergola Center; Grp...

… with the group names and numbers listed. (The output above I just ran against my own controller right now.)

The smart things driver will then convert each of these groups to a “switch” inside smartthings in the same “room” where your controller is located. Control each group using the switch on the group itself in smart things.

Creating and naming groups on the luxor controller is required first, since it’s the only way to send intensity commands (as shown even in the html output above as well). My code does not support Theme definitions.

You can either make groups and assign lights to each group in the Luxor phone app, or from the LCD console of the unit itself I believe. I don’t have a mechanism to create these groups in my driver. I am not sure they support that with their http api anyways. My driver is mimicking just about what you see on the page you posted. It just gets or sets the intensity for a specific group number.

Edit: Something else I realized as well – if this still isn’t working, then there should be a lot of debug output that potentially shows any errors as well. Just run the following command using the smartthings command line interface:

smartthings edge:drivers:logcat 13c337cc-5967-4526-accf-7550c128d2cb

Hello,

I know this is a few years old but I recently purchased a Smartthings hub as a compliment to my homeseer system and saw that this was available to control my Luxor landscape lighting. I currently control my lighting with homeseer through my Hubitat hub but it is clunky at best and fails often so I was excited to see that there may be another option.

Anyway, after following this thread and getting this installed and the IP address configured, I got only 2 devices: all on or all off which neither works. I have about 18 devices on my ZDC controller. I could not find any additional settings and was wondering if I am missing something? Being that I am new to Smartthings, I very well could be doing something wrong. Any advise on this? Thanks

EDIT: I did run the command shown in powershell and received the response you posted

Hi there!

The best advice I have is make sure you have named groups, not just devices on your controller. These named groups will get added as new light switches that show up.

You mentioned that powershell gave the same output. Same meaning it showed your group names and numbers? My edge driver attempts to enumerate each group and the.enumerates a seperate switch for each group name in smartthings, probably in the edge utilities folder at first. Below image is what my own controller and then individual switch per group look like, matching the powershell output I posted above.

If you want to see the raw debug output of the driver, you can use the “edge:drivers:logcat [driver-id]” with the SmartThings cli. I recommend removing the controller and reading it while logcat is running (but leave the driver installed). It will display all the logs from what the driver sees within your Luxor controller.

Finally, I have also posted the full source online as well.
