Eco Plugs Wi-Fi Controlled outlet by KAB

Oh wow, this could totally happen, using a generic switch device handler you could add a form field to specify the device name/IP.

I haven’t looked too much into a generic device handler, but was thinking of working with something like the URI Switch. It would probably involve creating a script for each plug and each state on a webserver.

can i use eco plugs WI-FI in the philippines

Hi all, new to the SmartThings scene and interested in getting my Eco Plugs tied in. Now that the Eco Plugs team has added Alexa functionality, is there any way to get SmartThings to manage devices through Alexa? I’ve seen threads on how to get Alexa to manage devices connected to SmartThings, it would be equally helpful for devices that are being developed for use by Alexa to be managed by SmartThings.

I didn’t get through this whole thread, anyone know if these work with SmartThings? On clearance for about $10

One outlet is switched, other 2 always on.

i just created a separate thread for Eco’s outdoor wifi plug, found on clearance at Walmart for $4.

I, too, am interested in getting this hooked into ST. Or with ST and IFTTT, if applicable somehow.

Is this the same one https://community.smartthings.com/t/15-wifi-plug-kankun/31331/4, but just rebranded? i think they got it to work.

Hi @Motley , any update from tinkering on this project?

@Motley I am also concerned about the security exposure. Any suggestion to guard this info? Hardware and/or software fix?

Hi Sean
I just joined this site and i am looking for support for my eco plug. Can you tell me where to go to post my question.

                                    Thanks Phil

Getting geared up for holiday lighting and would like to use these switches for my outdoor lights. Any progress made integrating them into smartthings?

Thanks!

Bumping also. Maybe the Alexa integration could be used as a back door to integrate into SmartThings? Would love to use this in ST with no soldering and preferably no server(Maybe an android device).

I picked up a couple dozen of this time last year on clearance. Took a while to search the stores for them Found some in a clearance bin in the back corner of one store. The others on a card loaded with other clearance items.

I built a device out of wood, paper clips and wire to fit over the esp8266 module so I could mass program them with custom code. I’m using homie (https://github.com/marvinroger/homie-esp8266), smartthings-mqtt-bridge (https://github.com/stjohnjohnson/smartthings-mqtt-bridge) and I modified esp8266switch (https://github.com/scottjgibson/esp8266Switch) to work with the format expected by smartthings-mqtt-bridge. The modified code is here https://github.com/KHouse75/esp8266Switch. Through the smartthings IDE, I modified this virtual switch code (http://thinkmakelab.com/2014/06/11/how-to-create-a-virtual-switch-in-smartthings/) to send on and off commands through the smartthings-mqtt-bridge to the switch. The modified switch firmware also sends the physical on/off button presses on the switch through the smartthings-mqtt-bridge to smartthings which changes the on/off state of the switch in the app.

It works extremely well considering I knew nothing about mqtt or the modified groovy that the smartthings IDE uses. The SmartThings IDE integrates with GitHub somehow. Once I figure it out, I’ll upload the modified mqtt-bridge and device handler code.

This also works with Alexa when integrated with SmartThings. Just say “Alexa turn on plug 1” and plug 1 turns on. “Alexa turn off plug 1” and plug 1 turns off. It works just like any other smartthings switch or plug you have integrated with Alexa.

Just wanted to let people know of a new development with Eco Plugs. Unfortunately it’s not SmartThings related.

A couple of days ago the Google Home app was updated. I noticed Eco Plugs was finally added to the list of devices you can link. I tried multiple times to link my account, but the account information screen kept coming up like my password or email was wrong.

Yesterday I noticed a setting in the Eco Plugs app itself. You have to press “Setting” then click “Remote Control for more Connection”. I should also note that you have highlight the plug and click the box for EACH device. Once I did this I was able to link my account and control through the Home app.

Hopefully this will not make a difference, but I am using the beta version of the Eco Plugs app. It is possible the remote control option may not show up in the regular version.

Thank you for this essential bit of infornation on linking Ecoplugs to Google Home!! After being forced to migrate from the simplicity of the Ecoplugs app to a not so user-friendly Wemo app, I was thrilled when I discovered that Google Home recently added support for Ecoplugs. I spent several unsuccessful hours last night going down the same path that you had initially done, but was unable to access my Ecoplugs account because, like you, the login box seemed to indicate that my Ecoplugs account name or password was wrong. I even deleted my Ecoplugs account and reset my password several times without any success. As you pointed out, there are some additional steps required in order to link Ecoplugs to Google Home to allow for adding Ecoplug devices. The linking steps that you laid out may not be instinctive at first thought when compared to some other manufacturer’s devices. Somehow by chance, I discovered your posting today during a Google search and successfully added an Ecoplugs device, something that I’ve been wanting to do for long time. Thank you again for taking the time to post this account linking information because it definitely helped me, and it may well help others who find themselves struggling to add Ecoplug devices to Google Home.

Glad my info helped and everything worked out for you.

I will now make a correction to my original message.

In the app they have changed it to: “Connect to Google Assistant”.

They made this change to try to make it less confusing.
