Best device handler to create a virtual thermostat

Does anyone know of a device hander that acts as a virtual thermostat to an on/off device (relay/switch/etc.)?

I’m looking to implement a real thermostat for my linear relay controlling my garage heater instead of a smartapp which I’ve caught a couple of times missing commands. I want to make it more robust and as a device that my family can control on/off/temperature.

I am confused by the reasoning. A Device Handler won’t be as reliable as a real thermostat. DH is subject to the same cloud.

IMO put in a real thermostat, and integrate it, e.g. Filtrete 3M-50 for cheap.

Partially agree, however I already have a temp sensor and a relay in the garage, all I need is software. Have you ever pulled wire through a wall? It isn’t easy. I already have this setup using a SmartApp, and it would work better as a device.

Attempting a SmartTiles digital thermostat in lieu of a nest

Newbie here, I have been researching how to create a simple virtual thermostat that I can see in smartthings and on my tablets via smarttiles. I would like to hit an up or down arrow in the software which would change my thermostat value. The relay controlling my electric wall heater would come on until the temp on a nearby motion sensor reached that new set value. So kind of like a dynamically changing virtual thermostat. Does anyone have any idea how to make this, or something similar that I could modify? Thanks in advance!

Emulating a thermostat from a multi-sensor

Background: Google home doesn’t recognize sensors, just switches, buttons, and thermostats. What I’m trying to do is set up a sensing device (smartthings multisensor in this case) so that I can say “what’s the temperature outside?” I’ve tried all of the thermostat device handlers, and they either don’t correctly read the smartthings sensor and report something other than temperature, or simply don’t read anything. I know nothing about coding, but I can copy paste to create a new device handler and that basic sort of stuff. What I would really like is some way to have a virtual, simulated, or emulated thermostat that reads the temperature sensor component of the switch as a thermostat would so that Google home will recognize it and I can then ask about the outside temperature.
