Could you update this on how you wired this? Thanks!
I already have a wireless connection for my router as a backup (USB 4g card). My network closet is in a very secure location and I have UPS power to it. My ST hub is the v2 with battery backup onboard as well.
I’m trying to understand how to monitor a specific outlet (freezer) if power goes out. We have storms that sometimes trip the breaker and if not home it would be great to know.
To that end I found the Aeon Labs multisensor 6, which has USB and battery power.
Does a script exist where I could be notified if it loses main power (i.e., goes on battery power)? This also assumes there is event tracking built into its firmware that has the proper state change for something to actually read.
I’ve seen this question come up a lot.
You could use CoRE and a device that you can switch on/off in the same circuit as the freezer and set up a rule like this.
Would this work if the “switch” you were monitoring lost it’s power feed? Seems it would stop sending updates altogether.
Right, which is why you have to turn the switch on and have the piston look for an on switch. If that switch had no power then it will not report an on status, therefore the alert is sent. It will only give you a false reading if the power is lost after the switch is turned on. So, a failsafe could be built in to have it report a seconds time after the switch is supposed to be off.
I have revised the piston to look like this:
Using the And-If piston now. I’ve verified this and it works.
Revision 2 - note the second set of times. @Tony_Graziano. This piston will do what you are wanting, if you have a spare plug in module or something to use.
Have to try this out when I get back into HA
Huh? ? ? ? ?
Well I can’t really count the state of ST as HA, more like a burden.
What I mean is when I get back into setting up ST or another HA again, I am not touching anything at the moment, have things limping along and don’t have the motivation to try when I have no confidence in the results.
Gotcha… I’m really glad I’m not having the problems right now that screwing others.
