I meant the instructions you provided. Our HD actually has a lot of very capable employees, and they’ve helped me come up with a number of creative solutions in the past. They could probably figure it out.

I’m not disparaging anyone who works at Home Depot…some of them are very smart. But this isn’t a construction/building type question. You’re talking about soldering wires into a contact sensor and using relays. This is more of a Radio Shack type question…if they were still around of course.

The issue with using a Smart Plug for this is, if the power goes out then the Smart Plug can’t communicate.
Using on of these below and a contact that accepts dry contacts would be ideal:
