I previously used X10 rather extensively in a previous home then moved to a rental where it wasn’t practical to reinstall. 10 years later, I now am back into home automation and going with the SmartThings route. Very cool!

I’ve already added structured wiring throughout the house (built 1971). I completed a few DIY projects to automate and create alerts for power outages, well pump leaks and low chemical level on my water treatment units. I also have Liftmaster MyQ units. I am now integrating those into my SmartThings installation.
