Well if ST had integrated MyQ like they promised, what, two years ago this wouldn’t be an issue. But I’m still waiting for them to do anything that they promised.
Mostly, ST is a piece of shit.

Hey, we now have integration with SkyBell. So. ya. Way more important than delivering on promises.

Did you ever figure out why she won’t recognize open/close? Mine also only works by telling her on/off.
I did not! Still have to tell Alexa to turn on the garage door…
Just to see where we are at here been a while and there are hundreds of posts here. I had MyQ working with Copyninjas app but it no longer gives me door status, it always says the door is closed no matter what now. Is that a result of Chaimberlain not wanting to play with Smartthings or is there something else wrong here?
Correct, the door status polling between SmartThings and Chamberlain no longer works. As a workaround, you can get your own contact sensors and use the new app I wrote here: [OBSOLETE] MyQ Lite Door and Lamp Control (for Liftmaster/Chamberlain) - #205 by Boruguru
I actually have a door sensor on the garage door that is wired to my DSC alarm system. That in turn has an envisalink so that it can be controlled and monitored over my home network. I then run J64Alarmserver on my home server that communicates from the inrternet (my cell phone) through the hub into my panel.
All that being said since that contact is already monitored in smartthings, is there a way to just grab that through the smartthings app or am I dreaming?
You can use a sensor that is already in Smartthings.
Sweet all I have to do is learn how to poll that data. Thank You gentlemen.
Hey all - wanted to let you know I just released a new version of the MyQ Lite SmartApp that enables door control without requiring a sensor. You don’t get door status displayed when you do that, but all other open/close functionality works just fine. See my link from a few posts above to go to the community link for details.
I would love to try it, but to do that I’d have to obtain the myQ connect device… turns out my opener, despite claiming network connectivity when I bought it, requires an additional gizmo to get there. Feeling ripped-off by Chamberlain and watching them refuse to service their customer base on smart home connectivity, I am very reluctant to give them any more of my money. And on reading the myQ Connect documentation, it says you need a computer… REALLY?? You cannot complete the process with a mobile device?
Nope… ain’t gonna happen.
For anyone still using the discontinued app, I have a solution. A little wonky I suppose, but it works. I am also using Rule Machine, so it’s one unsupported app to work another unsupported app. Ah well, here goes.
I have two rules, one that polls the MyQ sensor (that’s right, I am only using the MYQ equipment…no additional sensors) and one that open and closes the door. The latter is setup on a routine so that everyone in my household can operate it from a widget on their mobile devices, but you can certainly set it up however works best for you.
First the widget:

Now the polling rule (trigger really). This polls every five minutes or when a private boolean changes, which happens when the open/close rule runs:
Finally the open/close rule. This sets the private boolean and toggles the door between open and closed. I like to toggle so that the family has only one button to push like they would on a visor-mounted controller.
The delay is set for the boolean change. I am still playing with the timing of that. Sadly it can only be set by minutes, not seconds.

I hope this is helpful. I’m no pro and this took me a long time to work out. There is probably a better way to do this, but for now this is working for me.
@Glen_King - Yeah, I was annoyed I had to buy the extra gateway device, but it works well. I can confirm that you do NOT need a computer to set it up. It’s all done via mobile app. Whatever documentation you found is not accurate for this device.
@jcarrano - just be warned that the polling is doing exactly the same thing that got the original MyQ SmartApp shut down. You’ve just figured out a way around how SmartThings disabled it. If enough people started using your method and generating a bunch of traffic to Chamberlain’s API, they would likely put in a way to block that as well. That said, your’e probably safe as you’re only one of a few people that will do it this way.
Thanks. I worried about that too. The flip side, if that does happen, may be that it may encourage Chamberlain and Samsung to start a real conversation about this. That or ST users will be forced to dump MyQ devices altogether. Of course, there is also the likelihood that someone may soon get the Ryobi opener device type going by then.
Seriously though, I hope that my solution does not cause any further interruption of service from Chamberlain. I don’t want to cause any more inconvenience for anyone here.
Brian, thanks… I figured that stuff out last week. Decided I’d give it a whirl, and if I was dissatisfied I could just return the gateway to homedepot within a month or so. So I got the hub, got it connected, and am now controlling the garage via an Alexa skill. Works very nicely.
Oops. Totally forgot I already saw you in the newer thread, lol. Glad you got it working.
buy me one and I’ll build you Ryobi device type.
Woah, those look sweet. I’d totally support code for that, too, if I could get my hands on one, haha
That would almost be tempting. I’m still trying to figure out how to rationalize buying one for myself.
