Wired Gate Sensor on Smartthings

Hello,

I want to apply a Wired Magnetic Switch on my outdoor gate like this one:

From my understanding this is just the switch part, and I’ll need a “controller” that checks the state of the switch and reports back to Smartthings.

Does anyone use any of these on Smartthings? Can anyone share their device names/brands?

I already have an Aqara T2 that can open/close one or the two halves of the gate. The gate can also be configured to stay open if I will be going in and out, etc. I would like to have something to alert me if I left it open for too long, specially at night.

I don’t want wireless Zigbee door sensors because this gate is outdoors and will be exposed to the sun, rain, etc.

Thanks in advance

How far is the gate from your house (or nearest zigbee repeater) . I have a similar requirement for a movement sensor at the bottom of my driveway which would be too far for zigbee. I ended up getting a (non smart) guard line wireless motion sensor and making it smart by adding an electromagnet to its outputs and attaching that to a sonoff zigbee door sensor. It definitely works quite well but isn’t a gate sensor.

Re reading your post again, it looks like you do need a gate sensor, but I’ll leave this reply for interest anyway.

I have one of those on my gate. You need a door/window contact sensor with dry contacts. My gate is very close to the house so I used the Ecolink Z-Wave Plus Door Window sensor to connect to ST and put it in a water tight case. You could also extend the wiring and place the contact sensor inside as well.
