Probably not. The term “smart thing” was already in widespread use before the smartthings kickstarter campaign started.
In particular, there is an English company which also has US offices which is called “SmartTHING LTD,” and they were founded in 2009, pre-dating the smartthings we know by several years.
Their website is at smartthing.org , so if anyone has a claim against smartthing.com it would likely be them.
It is a little surprising that Samsung didn’t buy up that .com domain, though, companies do typically do that when there might be consumer confusion even if there is no trademark violation.
