Water shutoff valve replacement

I have two homes with Leaksmart water shutoff valves that are about 10 years old. They have functioned flawlessly. But there is no manual override if the motor fails. Seems they are no longer in production and I am looking to replace them with a new unit that can be turned off manually if the motor fails. Looking for recommendations.

I have a couple of these, but isn’t there a gear/knob of some sort under the cover that can be used? It’s been too long since I’ve actually put eyes on mine, but I thought there’s a way to manually use these valves.

John thanks for the reply. I will check when I get home. I hope do. As with all things it will break at some point.

John, today I took the cover off as I have in the past. No way I can see to manually turn the valve open or close. You may have a different model than mine. My units are leaksmart water valve v 2.10.
As they are shut down and if someone purchased the unit and using it with their controller it will no longer work. As we know it continues to function with Smartthings. In the past it had a monthly process to open
and close. As I am not sure if this process will still function I have taken to monthly open and close the valve to keep it working. If you decide to change your unit please let me know which you chose. I have been
looking at#### Ezlo WiFi + Z-Wave Smart Water Shut-Off
It has the ability to manually turn on and off. Any help will be appreciated .thanks again

I’m away from one of my locations that have these valves at the monument, so I can’t check mine, but as soon as I get back in a few days I’ll take a look. I think you’re right though as I found some pics online. It looks like the motor unit would have to be removed to even be able to get to the gears to try to manually use the valve.

Also, my valves do go through a monthly open/close cycle on their own and I’ve never had them hooked up to no other controller than SmartThings, and I don’t have a routine in ST to do that for me either. I have a notification set up to let me know whenever these open or close, so I know for sure they cycle automatically.

Been checking and it seems there is a manual way to turn off or on the water.

Steps to manually close a jammed LeakSmart valve

  1. Unplug the power. First, unplug the AC power cord from the valve to prevent any accidental movement of the motor.
  2. Remove the valve cover. Unscrew and remove the motor housing cover to expose the gear assembly.
  3. Mark for reassembly. Before you remove the motor housing, use a marker to draw a line across one side where the upper and lower motor housings connect. This will help you correctly reposition the motor when you are finished.
  4. Remove the motor housing. Unscrew the four Phillips head screws holding the motor housing in place.
  5. Turn the internal gear. Use your thumb and fingers to rotate the plastic gear. To close the valve and shut off the water, turn the gear counter-clockwise.
    • Caution: Do not use any tools to turn the gear, as this could cause permanent damage.
