Remember when Google’s motto was “Don’t be Evil”?
Apologies if this has been answered, but will we loose Webcore integration when we loose the groovy IDE?
That is correct… webcore is groovy based and will cease when groovy is shut down.
Alternatives are to use Automations/Scenes and/or Rules API
Thanks.
So we know the exact date that’s going to happen and what is the rules API?
Thanks again
No exact date has been given at this point. Most of us believe it could occur by the end of this year but who knows, it may drag out.
At SDC19, we previewed our new Rules Grammar and API that allows you to create simple and complex automations that can operate on the SmartThings cloud. In a future release of the API, local execution of rules on SmartThings hubs will be supported - making rules a great choice for those looking to create fast, stable and secure automations. We are excited to announce a few resources available for everyone to start testing: Introduction Video Rules Documentation Testing App (use the Show button) Example Rules We know you have will feedback and requests - we are working hard to add more features to the API (such as variables and expressions). Feel free to drop your ideas, questions, and comments here!
Thanks I’ll check that out.
Well that sucks. It’s how we trigger Lifx scenes from ST! Any workarounds?
It’s how
What is the “it” you are referring to that is being deprecated? webCore, maybe? If so, look at SharpTools Rule Engine as a replacement. It’s not quite as robust as webCore, but unless your pistons are unusually complex, it will work just fine.
I also use webCoRE to trigger life X scenes. Another alternative maybe Ifttt when Webcor is no longer available.
Sorry @Bry, yes, webCore. I don’t know anything about SharpTools Rule Engine. Is that 3rd party? Smarthings?

Are you triggering them via an API call or something?
@ ady (can’t find his username- doesn’t populate like it used to)
Adrian no longer works at SmartThings. When he left, his community account disapeared.
I was afraid of that. Does anybody know where he went?
Chewy I believe
Try this new edge driver to post API calls
I have a new Edge driver to share that provides the ability to issue POST and GET web requests to a specified URL. This functionality can help users that may today depend on webCoRE or other cloud-based means to do a similar task. Of course being an Edge driver it enables you to have fast & local automations. There are two ways this driver can be used: Pre-configure up to 50 different POST/GET URL strings, which can then be individually triggered through Automations/Rules or via a button in the mobile app. Issue custom URL POST/GET commands from within a Rule >>>>>UPDATE: Please go to this readme file for the latest instructions Limitations Although GET method is supported, it currently does not actually do anything with the returned data from the server. I’m open to ideas he…
Wait, like Chewy the online pet store? That seems an odd transition, but bummer to see him go either way.
Chewy is a very technology forward company - a lot of people point at how they do some of thier processes as good examples. They are also very much into building a mobile first storefront (first class handheld app experience). They’re pretty heavily invested in AWS/Google cloud and then Airship to help build the client side. Im not suprised in the least. Good for him.
