The update routines is a brilliant feature to have. Today I replaced two tuya zigbee motion sensors with Ikea myggspray motion sensors. I seamlessly used the update routines feature to swap all references from the old zigbee devicess to the new matter over thread device.Entirely painless and took seconds to complete compared to manually editing each routine for the new device. You don’t need it that often, but when you do it’s invaluable.
How do you use this feature?
My screen is sufficiently different that I do not see any such options. I noticed Siri in your menu. Are you running an Apple app on a desktop? I use Windows and my options are different.
in Menu > Notices (on iOS): * there is no app on Macs for ST. if Siri is confusing you - Siri runs on Macs and iOS devices.
SmartThings App Update Notice (April 2026)
We are pleased to announce the April update for the SmartThings app. This update introduces several new features designed to simplify automation and improve your smart home management.
1. Enhanced Routine Creation Assistant
Creating routines is now more intuitive with our natural conversation interface. Instead of navigating complex settings, simply tell the AI assistant what you want to automate. For example, you can say, “Open the curtains and turn on the living room lights at 7 a.m. on weekdays.” The assistant will guide you through the necessary conditions step-by-step to complete the setup.
- How to use: Go to Automation > Create Routine > Routine Creation Assistant.
2. Batch Update for Routine Devices
Replacing a device is now easier than ever. Previously, you had to update every routine manually when a device was replaced. Now, you can swap an old device with a new one (of the same functionality) across all your routines simultaneously. For example, when you replace a living room bulb with a new one, you can update all routines containing that bulb at once, significantly reducing setup time.
- How to use: Go to the Automation tab > Menu (⋯) > Routine update.
3. Detailed Routine History
Gain full transparency into your home’s automation with detailed execution records. You can now review exactly when a routine ran, the specific conditions that triggered it, the actions performed, and the final results. This makes it easier to troubleshoot routines that may not be working as intended. Additionally, long-pressing a routine allows you to view a full week of execution history at once.
- How to use: Go to the Menu tab > History > select the ‘>’ button.
4. Air Conditioner Grouping
Manage your home’s climate more efficiently with the new Air Conditioner Group feature. This allows you to group multiple air conditioners in a single location and control them (on/off) simultaneously rather than adjusting each unit individually.
5. Nowbrief Expanded to TV & Family Hub
‘Nowbrief’ has expanded beyond home status to include care insights for your family and pets. These updates are now accessible on mobile devices, 2026 Samsung Smart TVs, and Family Hub refrigerators.
- Available Information: Sleep environments, home security, pet activity/walking history, and family activity data.
- Supported Devices: 2026 Samsung Smart TVs (and models supporting Tizen 10.0) and Family Hub Refrigerators (Tizen 10.0 OS supported models).
6. Video Service ‘AI Video Analysis’ (Beta)
AI identifies people, pets, and packages from camera footage, and provides automated titles and summaries so you can quickly find the footage you are looking for. In Pet Care, users can filter activity by category or create AI webtoons from pet footage.
- How to use: Go to Life tab > SmartThings Video
- Eligibility: SmartThings Home Camera 360 & Pet Care users (US/Korea). Limited to the first 1,000 participants.

※ This is a beta service, and participation will close once capacity is reached.
The Windows app remains extremely limited in functionality compared to the Android and iOS apps to the extent that it really needs to be considered as a completely different thing. References to the ‘SmartThings app’ are generally to the Android and iOS apps.
The Android app has the ‘Update Routines’ feature. The menu is not quite the same as on iOS. Android doesn’t have the ‘Siri’ or ‘History’ entries, but does have a ‘Sort’ at the top.
The Notice from the Android app doesn’t include the ‘Enhanced Routine Creation Assistant’ entry though it does also say:

They can perhaps be excused the ‘Menu (⋯)’ bit as it is pretty clear what they are getting at, but there isn’t an ‘Automation’ tab and the feature isn’t called ‘Routine update’.
