Unable to add Philips Hue bridge to my smartthings devices

When you say “extra hub” do you mean extra location?

When I reset the hub there ended up being another one. You can see this in the IDE website. Not sure how it happened but I heard it’s from the migration from the old app to the new one. It can’t be deleted either. Was just on the phone w/ support and it’s a known issue. I was told that people using version 1 & 2 Smartthing hubs should still use the classic app. I haven’t used the classic app other than trying to connect the hue bridge through it.

I tend to think it is related to resetting the hub instead of using STSC. Opening STSC has created extra locations and divided items between them. I have not seen any reports of extra hubs being created in that process but maybe I am wrong.

Anyway, your best bet is to continue working with ST support to resolve everything. Good luck - hope it gets resolved

As I said, I just talked to smartthing support and they stated it’s a known issue w/ the creation of another hub. It has to do w/ the migration on their end. I’m still going to keep digging to see if I can fix it somehow.

That worked for me (Samsung Connect Home Pro).

Thanks!

Hi Everyone, just wondering whether anyone knew of another way of connecting to Hue instead of through the app? The reason I ask is that I wanted to see whether the diyhue emulator could be added to SmartThings as a Hue bridge? I’ve tried a number of ways but I’m not the best at these things.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to share what worked for me.

I couldn’t get my Hue Hub to reconnect to SmartThings after I killed all third party access to my Hue account. ST Connect app was telling me it couldn’t find my hub after repeatedly trying (and failing). So I went back into the ST Classic app and tried there… no luck either. Finally, I reset my Hue Hub and then removed all the “dead” Hue lights and the hub from Classic and Connect. Double checked the IDE page to make sure everything was removed. Then I tried adding the Hue Hub back in. Worked the first time within seconds.

I don’t know why it was acting weird, but I’m pretty sure there was a conflict between the two apps and the IDE. Had nothing to do with the Hue side of things. Sorry if this is old news, but I could have used these tips at 1am last night; so hopefully this is helping someone in the future.

After more than 2 years of not having Hue ecosystem integrated into ST, with no clear guidance or direction, I stumbled upon the solution to my particular situation. While trying to find out why my Google homes devices would not group and work simultaneously, I found for my networking gear (Ubiquiti’s Unifi) the solution which afterwards I said what the heck let me try to re-add the Hue bridge. Well lo and behold it all came back. It had to do with my devices being on an IoT VLAN and changing mdns from reflector to repeater. For reference: https://community.ui.com/questions/mDNS-repeater-on-USG/4d1bd073-3359-4a32-8cbe-84633af0ef03

I get the hue hub added just fine with ST but no lights show up.
I deleted and tried again but got the same result.
Not sure what I’m missing…

Are you using the new or Classic app? Getting the hue lights by hue bridge can be hard for some folks from time to time. Make sure the hue bridge has a static ip# and the bridge is on the same subnet as the SmartThings hub. Also, some folks find the lights eventually show up after a day or two. :frowning:

Ok I’ll give it time. It is static and I’m using the new app. Tks

So the light strips never came up. I deleted the hub and started over with the classic app and instant gratification! I don’t get it. How is the new app still having issues like this???

Has this old problem been solved? I have just run into it!

I originally had my Philips Hue Bridge connected to my SmartThings phone app (I don’t have the ST hub), but after making some changes to the Hue system, I cannot get the ST app to find the Hue Bridge and Hue lamps anew.

I even removed the ST app and re-installed it, but it does not give me a clean new start: It never asks me to press the Philips Hue Bridge button, to find the Bridge. Instead it directly jumps to asking Philips Meethue for permission, which it gets (it can be seen on the Meethue net page).
The end result after that is ST error message ‘Something went wrong…’
SmartThings-virhe

The Philips Hue system works fine by itself, together with Google Nest and Google Home (Google Assistant).
The ST app finds my Samsung Galaxy watch and Samsung Galaxy Buds, but not the Philips Hue Bridge.
All these systems are on the same WiFi network.

Try removing the linked service for hue. You can locate it in Menu in the lower right of the screen, click on Settings (the cog in the upper right of the screen) and choose Linked services. Edit and remove Hue. Then go back and try to add Hue back.

Removing the ST app will not remove any devices on your phone.

Unfortunately removing Philips Hue from the ST’s linked services did not help.

The connecting routine still misses searching for the Philips Hue Bridge, it goes to asking for Philips Hue permission, and ends with the same old error message ‘Something went wrong…’. (Not a very descriptive message, to my mind)

Go to the Devices section, click on the Home icon in the upper left of the screen and select Not in Use to see if they are listed there.

Adding devices has been a little hit or miss lately for me… in other words, sometimes there is no indication that devices were successfully connected but they migh be added in that section noted above.

There is no Not In Use selection under the Home icon.
I actually removed the lamps from the device list when I tried to start everything anew. That explains why the lamps are nowhere to be found.

The image in the error message might mean a problem with ST - network connection? The right hand synbols is usually used for internet, isn’t it? Could there be a network problem?
I have the Hue Bridge connected directly to a Nest Hub that works as my router.

Originally the ST app had found the lamps (when the pairing routine told to press the Hue Bridge button (which it hasn’t done ever since). But it only told that pairing was done. The app could not control the lamps.

It now seems to me, that there is something fundamentally wrong with the SmartThings-Hue connection. Therefore I shall forget about SmartThings for now, and use Philips Hue only.
Maybe I shall find a reliable service for Zigbee devices by the time I really will need to connect non Philips Hue or non Google Nest devices to my nest.
