Well it looks as if I have something working now. I’m still refining the device handler and learning as I go 
Where did you find device handler?
I’m in the process of writing my own but I just deleted the device and I can’t seem to add it as a thing any more. I did however get t the stage where I could recognise a press, double tap and hold.
Reset my hub (power off) and added as a thing after a generic discovery.
