I’ve seen some conversation on this but nothing recent. I’ve avoided Wifi based HA products because I just don’t want them on the network and all this cloud to cloud stuff.
But these TPLink HS200’s are at an impossible price point. As of now (Dec 2020), can ST use the local API with them? Or is it strictly cloud-to-cloud with ST and those switches?

As far as I know, the only Wi-Fi device that runs local at the present time is the Phillips hue bridge, and that’s an unusual Integration.
If you want to run that specific model locally, you can do it with a Hubitat hub or one of the other platforms that supports UDP. But not, as far as I know, on a smartthings system. 
Oy. Maybe I won’t buy them then…
You know I keep looking at Hubitat and saying ahh nah. Not yet. My biggie is my Tradfri stuff they refuse to support, and the community here seems more friendly.
