Anyone have a thread or more likely zigbee rain sensor? I’m looking for a rain sensor for outside, not a leak sensor, ideally I’d like it to show when it’s actually raining rather than a sensor that detects it’s in puddle of water.
Netatmo weather station and rain gauge
This no longer integrates with ST though…
I wanted to have routines based on when it’s raining so need ST integration
@Declankh yep me too ideally. Been looking on and off but can’t seem to find anything…
Hoping someone will suggest something with a direct integration here ![]()
Not certain this will tell you if it’s raining or not. I * think* a rain gauge typically records the mm or rain fallen per time period. So it might tell you there have been 3.5mm of rain today rather than it’s rainy or dry right now. This is just a hunch though, their description isn’t detailed enough to conclude
Randomly picked a sensor on AliExpress:
Works with Zigbee2MQTT and Home Assistant. That means that it either works out of the box with ST or with a custom driver.
Looks promising
I’m using this device with mariano’s driver.

Can say that the device is really sensitive, and it will trigger the wet/dry status change very often, at the slightest water drop. So it will give you a lot of false positives. Also, you lost the illuminance measurement.
Have to find some time to thinker with W35l3y’s generic driver. Seems more promising because you receive a millivolt measurement for the rain detection so you can play with bigger thresholds. Also, you can compare the illuminance to decide if its raining or not.

Thanks for this. I see that particular model is solar charging. I think I’ll give that a miss on the grounds that we don’t get enough daylight in the winter here to keep it charged. ![]()
Indeed it uses solar power for recharging, and it can be a problem if you don’t have enough sunlight, but, it has a 1300mAh battery inside, which may be sufficient to keep the device running during the winter.
Not with this attitude!
(Eve Energy Outdoor + construction spotlights)
You could create a routine that turns on the spotlights when the battery of the sensor is low.
lol, that’s a solution, if not a terribly practical one.
I got this, it pairs and presents with ST as a water leak sensor. The jury is out as to whether this is reliable or effective yet, only had it a few days, I’ll report back on its efficacy later.
What’s the manufacturer / model of the device (device card → three dots → information)?
Maybe we can get the illuminance sensor to work…
Still untested, but here it is anyway: HOBEIAN ZG-223Z Rain Lux Sensor from this channel
