The differences between the GE 14287 vs GE 14294 switch?

Greetings and salutations,
Call me a country bumpkin, but what is the real difference between the GE 14287 and the GE 14294 smart switches? I’m looking on Amazon and to me they both seem to do the same thing. They both control the variable speeds of the device.

The 14294 is a dimmer. In the simplest terms, it reduces voltage to dim your load. You cannot use a dimmer (reduce voltage) on a fan motor as it may damage the fan (best case) or heat the fan motor and start a fire (worst case)

The 14287 is a fan controller. It reduces fan speed by lowering amperage and is safe to control fan speed, but generally doesn’t work to dim a lamp.
