I’ve been a member since 2016. In my time here I’ve seen a lot of hard work from community developers who seem to have a gift. I’ve also seen people who knows & understands the engerneering aspect of zigbee, zwave, wifi, etc. If we took all these people & put them together couldn’t it be possible that they could make a smart home that works? It maybe crazy thinking but look at that group that started another hub.
There are lots of smart home platforms that work as far as delivering their stated mission. 
It’s just a matter of finding which one works best for you and your own priorities. But the low end consumer market offers quite a few nice choices now.
