SYLVANIA Lightify Dimming Switch button not working

I received a SYLVANIA Lightify Dimming Switch from Amazon the other day, and it was super easy to pair and setup with ST, but when I tried to set up actions for holding either of the buttons I ran into a problem. The Device will not trigger an event when I hold down the bottom button (button 2). Pushing either button works, and holding button 1 works, but not holding button 2. I thought maybe mine was defective so I got a replacement, but the replacement has the same issue.

I checked the debug logs through the ST IDE and it does show something when I hold and then release button 2, but judging from holding button 1 it looks like I should see log entries both when I start holding the button and then more when I release it - button 2 only gives me the entries when I release it.

Could I have 2 devices with the exact same defect?

One thought I had was that maybe this is an incompatibility with my v1 hub, but as further proof that it may be the device itself I noticed that holding both buttons for 3 seconds does not cause the device to enter pairing mode as the manual claims. (In my troubleshooting I tried to remove and re-add the device.)

Can anyone let me know if you’ve heard of such an issue and if you thing they are both defective?

Also, just to add, I did try the custom DTH’s from adamoutler and Motley with the same results.

As long as you are using the stock DTH that’s an officially supported device, I would get in touch with SmartThings support and see if they see anything from their side:

Motleys DTH should recognize the Long hold , so you could ask your question again in his author thread and see if anyone there has any ideas. But the reset not working concerns me.

It’s always possible that there’s a whole batch of bad devices, it can happen with any electronics, so since the reset isn’t working I would definitely get in touch with Sylvania themselves as well and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice. Actually the stock DTH is recognizing the long hold of one of the buttons.

I think I will contact Sylvania though, thanks. I can still replace them both through Amazon, but I just felt a little weird about saying this replacement has the same defect. I know it happens though…

The stock DTH (ZigBee Button) creates the device as Centralite Zigbee Smart Switch and does recognize held for both buttons. I just setup a new device and am seeing the expected data.
