Unsure why, but back in September 2024 my home monitor stopped automatically arming and disarming based on the locations of my and my partners phones. It previously worked great, with no apparent change in settings. Anyone else having this problem, and any solutions besides deleting everything and starting over?
ST location tracking has been notoriously unreliable for many folks in this forum. Some have turned to other apps such as Alexa for location tracking and using that to set the status of virtual presence sensors that are used in ST Routines.
You need to do some troubleshooting to determine if location tracking is working properly in the ST app.
Historically mobile presence has been prone to issues when the app has updated. Often it has had to be cycled off and on in the app and that in turn used to create a new presence device meaning the automations needed fixing. I’ve found that to be less of an issue over the last year, and cycling the setting seems to have stopped changing the device. That’s for me though and it’s always been a very individual thing.
The Home Security Management settings in Home Monitor are relatively recent addition to the app so you may find a lot of users of this forum don’t actually use them, instead setting the Security Mode in their own automations if they use it.
A number of us use the Member Location in Routines (or an equivalent) to set virtual devices and then use those devices in further automations. That improves the visibility of mobile presence and also allows it to be overridden.
I’d certainly suggest cycling the ‘Get your location from this phone’ setting on each device and then checking the Home Monitor settings are still OK.
Cycling the settings may also reveal if any of your phone settings are not as they should be. The app has got quite good at checking and correcting those, though it is still worth checking for yourself. You want the app to be able to access the Location in the background and you don’t want it being put to sleep if you don’t use it much.
Tried a few things, and no solution. Just took my wifes phone and checked every single setting and it appears despite location being on, the precise location was off. We shall see next time we leave the house!
That’s what I suggested two months ago in comment #3.
Yes. and I thank you for that. I am unsure why her setting changed.
