Smoke detector units? (2025)

Hi,

I’m a user in the USA and finding it difficult to find smoke detectors that integrate with Smart Things. What is recommended and where to get them?

Thanks!

Open the SmartThings app, tap on the + to add a device. This will open the “add a device” screen.

look for the three vertical dots icon. Tap that and you’ll see a pop-up that says “view supported devices.”

tap on “view supported devices“ and you will get the list to all the devices that have official brand-specific integrations with smartthings for your region.

Smoke detectors will be under “sensors.“

at the time of this posting in the US, the two most popular options are a Z wave device from first alert and a Zigbee device from Aqara. Both will require that you have a SmartThings hub that supports the matching protocol.

Another popular option is to get the EcoLink sound sensor. This is a Zigbee device, so will work with most smartthings hubs. This isn’t a smoke detector itself, it’s an acoustic listener, which can detect any UL listed smoke alarm going off. It is listed in the SmartThings app, but I think you have to look under the list of brands and choose EcoLink to find it.

If you have a matter compatible hub, here is a list of matter compatible co or smoke alarms.

If you have hardwired smoke alarms, another option is to tie in a relay that will trigger when the existing detectors go off. This is an easy one that I use:

I just installed the Zen55 by Zooz. Fairly easy, seems to work well, and then you can use any smoke detector you want, so long as it is hardwired.

I have my doubts on the smoke and CO se sensors in some of these obscure brands. The Zooz let’s me use a top quality detector and therefore my choices are endless
