SmartThings iOS App Version 1.7.51.30 (September 2026)

They removed this useful feature… :sob:

I had custom wallpapers set for all my rooms. New app version wiped them all out… Absolutely no reason for that except poor programming! And TBH so far I have seen no benefit to the new version.

Please restore the old simple “Offline devices” dashboard to Favorites (or “Home” I guess…). I don’t need to run any fancy diagnostics, I just want to know at a glance how many devices are currently offline — because 2 offline means things vaguely normal, 52 offline means maybe a hub is down, 102 offline means a router is down, 202 offline means my internet is down.

(Using the Android app) I find that I like the improvements to the Offline diagnostics tool, although I feel it needs greater prominence.

I even prefer the larger notification that it produces at the top of the Home tab over the dynamic tile in the previous version of the Dashboard, or rather I prefer the greater potential it offers.

What I don’t like is that the notification seems to only appear if SmartThings Now is enabled. I’m not clear why SmartThings Now even exists as a separate thing but regardless of that nothing should be able to prevent an offline notification appearing.

I also don’t like that the notification can be closed. I think it would be helpful to have a button to acknowledge the notification has been read so new information can be highlighted, but the notification shouldn’t close while devices remain offline (except those it has been configured to ignore).

ST knows by what mechanism a device has been marked offline and really ought to better exploit that information. It certainly ought to indicate if a device has been marked offline because a hub is unreachable, and also what the status was when the hub was last reachable.

I have several device tiles that won’t open when I click on them? Not a huge fan of this update so far.

at least I know local connection works between the ST app and the hub when the internet access goes down - it worked tonight when there was a 5 minute outage.

Interesting, I couldn’t get this to work on my iPad when I first tired it a few days ago, but now it worked. :+1:

However, after changing my iPad off my IOT network and back to the main network, the SmartThings app showed all the devices offline and took a few minutes or so for the SmartThings app to connect back through the cloud.

Update:
AND, it does not seem to work if I connect to the IOT network after the Internet is down.

So that defeats the purpose of ‘offline mode’ if the app doesn’t store the Hub’s local IP address(s) or use some sort of network broadcast to find the Hub(s) since most people nowadays use separate IOT networks. Hummm…

The notes of the Google Play Store say:

“Faster hub-connected device control: Devices connected to your hub respond faster when your phone and hub are on the same Wi-Fi network.”

Well played whoever wrote that.

Unfortunately the ‘even when the Hub is offline’ appended to the original notes on the hub firmware promises so much more.

Since updating SmartThings to 1.7.51, the iOS app has become completely unusable for me because it crashes every time shortly after launch.

I have already tried:

  • completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app on my iPhone,
  • restarting the iPhone,
  • installing SmartThings on an iPad where the app had never been installed before.

The exact same issue happens on the iPad.

What is interesting is that the app initially opens, but once I sign in and it starts loading/syncing my SmartThings account data, it crashes. This makes me suspect that the issue may be related to some account/profile/device data being processed by the new 1.7.51 version, rather than a corrupted local installation.

I have been using SmartThings for several years without any major problems like this. The crashes started immediately after the latest update that introduced the redesigned Home screen/layout.

At this point I can reproduce the issue on two completely separate iOS devices, including a fresh installation on a device that never had SmartThings installed before.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

If anyone from the SmartThings team is monitoring this thread, could this please be escalated to the iOS development team? I am happy to provide logs, account details or any other diagnostic information if needed.

I run the ST app on an iPhone and iPad (both running iOS 27.0.1 and latest ST app) and am not having any issues like you are describing. That would indicate that it is something unique to your setup/usage.

Thanks for confirming.

That is actually what makes me think this may be account-specific rather than device-specific.

I can reproduce the crash on two completely separate iOS devices, and one of them was a completely fresh SmartThings installation on an iPad that had never had the app installed before.

The common denominator is my Samsung/SmartThings account. The app launches normally, but once it starts loading/syncing my account data, it crashes.

So I agree that it may be something specific to my setup/usage, but that could still mean that some particular device, Routine, Location or other data stored in my SmartThings account is triggering a bug in 1.7.51.

A regression like this would not necessarily affect every user.

It would be very helpful if someone from the SmartThings team could check the crash logs or my account data to determine what exactly is causing it. I’m happy to provide any diagnostic information needed.

ST is no longer actively monitoring the forum for the most part. It is best to reach out to them directly. Since the app is not an option for reaching out to them - go to Samsung’s website and go to Support listed at the bottom of the page to find other methods to contact them.
