@david.mccrindle, I’m one of the lucky ones that still have the “legacy” dashboards even after moving to hub v2, and I’m so thankful I do. Being with ST for over 2 years, and watching/experiencing the app develop (good and bad), the Dashboards implementation has been one of my most used features. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them.
I know SHM and Smart Lighting are capable of doing some things, but the views, grouping, and events Dashboard provided have been invaluable. I’m very glad to hear we can expect them to return, especially for those who never had them, or lost them.
I am confused. How did we lose this feature if the “Director of consumer visual design” wanted it and realized how important it was to customers ?
As you’ve probably read in other threads, the most important priority right now is stabilizing the platform. What we have planned for dashboard is a significant improvement over what we had in v1. The organization and people with much more important “titles” than me realize how crucial it is. I totally get and sympathize with the frustration.
As I recently pledged, I’ll be providing a sneak peek to some of the designs we’re working on with the community and/or on developer calls.
Sharing some designs would be nice @david.mccrindle . Committing to timelines is a fools errand, but showing progress placates us a little bit… Sure you’re going to get some “OMG worse concept ever feedback” but you’re going to get that at release anyway so imo might as well have it now when there is still time to tweak…
Sure platform stability should be your #1 concern, but incremental stabilization efforts are hard to get excited and even harder to visualize progress. New Dashboard designs showing incorporated feedback from the v2 launch on the other hand at least show something to look forward to… Just my $.02, now I gotta jet and run through a couple dozen clicks to re-save all my SmartApps that aren’t firing on schedule after yesterday’s “Mobile App Connectivity Issue”… #lowblow
But why remove the V1 dashboard before getting the V2 out ? Some of us have the V1 dashboard still, mine is half loaded because any devices I add don’t get placed into the dashboard which is very annoying. Obviously the V2 app can handle the V1 dashboard since many have it still. So I just can’t find the logic in taking away the old version and then promising a new version.
I have had so many promises from ST folks that have never been delivered. So sorry if I am spectacle.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. The sooner we hear the “worst concept ever”, the better (although, I’m optimistically/foolishly confident with what we’re working on that won’t be the case). The only caveat I’d add is that it’s tricky publicly posting designs for competitive reasons. But the design team will be using the Developer Calls as an opportunity to share designs so look out for those. We’ve also been hosting design feedback sessions at our offices to share new designs. Maybe we could look at doing those virtually as well for those who aren’t in sunny CA/miserably cold MN.

It’s a legitimate question and I can’t articulate the answer/reasoning. Although, I will say the new dashboard we are working on is a significant improvement over v1.
Understood. I can totally understand and relate. I know you’ve been burned so the sentiment might not not help but my team IS actively addressing issues noted above.
I mean, the obvious thing to do would just to re-enable the v1 dashboard until v2 is ready. Not rocket science but ST seams to like to over complicate things. It’s like (fill in name of your favorite cable provider) removing your channels, because they will be releasing new ones ‘soon-ish’.
I’ve worked in IT/SaaS/Cloud my whole life, I could never image taking away a feature before the ‘new’ version is ready. This just points to the foolish mentality of DevOps that ST follows.
Obviously SmartThings’s competitors have plenty of ways to exploit the product’s fundamental weaknesses as it is.
If a competitor’s only advantage is that they had advance ability to imitate and expand on the in-progress redesign of “dashboards and shortcuts”, then SmartThings has nothing to worry about.
While we understand that basic functionality and stability takes priority, the deliberate crippling of existing stable features is inexcusable and incomprehensible.
Couldn’t agree more. Would love to hear from ST on why this decision was made and by who (because my next post will be a recommendation to fire them).
The sentiment doesn’t help AT ALL. It’s just a slightly more polite way of ignoring us.
If I could get my money back for everything I’ve got, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Your founders got rich off the back of their supporters and now all we get are empty promises, vaporware, and excuses.
Last month I got invited to ST’s Minneapolis office to preview and test parts of the new app design.
It is pretty cool…
I have ST V1 in my vacation house and had a Wink in my main home. After the ST app preview, I dumped my Wink and bought a ST V2.
Be patient grasshopper… ST is doing great things.
For goodness sake please don’t go to CES and tell the world how great things are. Solve for your current customers then grow.

Come to think of it, why not listen to your users and former supporters to begin with.
Extra features are less important than a product that actually works.
The one exception to this rule is removing existing features that already work. I still say whoever made the, short sighted decision to remove the tiled, things page needs to have their head examined.
Where are those replacements slagle?

We saw it, we just lost the habit of believing you.
I don’t know if you have followed this in more recent months, but support told me that it’s gone for good.
The only reason I haven’t ditched ST completely is Smart tiles.

This is the downside of being in the small group of “Early Adaptors”.
Feel proud of what you have been able to do and help support if you can. I know it’s frustrating, I’ve had my issues at times with the system, St V2 is my fourth Smart Home integration so far and the best on the market that I have tested.
