This concerns me a bit, will it be the same issue when the 2nd hun was introduced and we have to unpair all our devices and add them to the new hub? Will we still be able to use our hubs or have to get the new one?

The SmartThings Cloud is the same backend you are already using. It is not the Artik cloud.
