If you leave the ST outlet (built in power meter) attached to the dryer you should easily be able to monitor if the dryer is still on our not. You’ll be able to them switch it off with your automations without purchasing a smart dryer.
hhmm just given me an idea!
Although I would not use this to switch off the dryer (this is because you should either leave it to run a cool cycle, or take the clothes out straight away to prevent a potential fire risk from a hot drum!), I wonder if you could use a humidity sensor in the exhaust ducting (assuming vented dryer) to alert you that the clothes could be dry. Quite a harsh environment for the sensor to be in given the high humidity and high exhaust temps…
I know there are a lot of auto sensing dryers on the market which can either switch off sooner, or turn off the heating elements, but mine isn’t one of those!
Wow. LOL, that would be pretty harsh with searing temperatures!
Not entirely accurate - for my oven at least, I have exactly the same control out of the house as I do inside on local WiFi.
I can get information on the oven at any time. To control the oven remotely I need to initiate remote control from the oven.
Then, I can adjust temperature, change cooking modes and timing from my phone wherever I am.
If I cancel cooking and opt to switch the oven back on, the app (presumably due to a rule on the oven) requests that I am physically in front of the oven to press ‘ok’.
I can’t see a problem hooking this up to ST.
