I’d like to be able to be able to separate the open/close senor and temperature into two “things”. Is there a simple way to have a device, in my case Iris open/close sensors, act as two separate things?
What is the simplest and quickest way to accomplish this?

Perhaps you can use composite devices: composite-devices
Not sure if its considered as simple or quick, there are some steps that can be involving for the first time.
This sounds more for devices that are controllable. ie: On/Off. The open/close and temperature sensor is an informative device.
Why do you need 2 “Things”?
If you just want to separate them into distinct tiles, then ActionTiles can do this for you. Each Capability get’s its own Tile.
