Safe to place water sensor next to water heater?

I just bought one of the SmartThings water sensors and wanted to place it next to the water heater.

The water heater sits in a pan so the sensor would have to sit pretty much right next to the water heater (maybe like an inch away). I’m worried that since the sensor has a battery it might be unsafe being so close to the water heater. Does this sound like a safety issue at all?

I don’t see an issue unless there is a fire, then who cares about a little battery popping. I have one under my water heater.
