I have the Ring doorbell (not Pro), wired, changed my “type” in IDE to Pro and I have live video. Now if I could just figure out a way to capture that!

I have a ring doorbell and did the same as you but I’m not getting the live video, it plays but its just blank no image :frowning: did you do anything else besides changing the device type?

Worked for me (original Ring, wired). Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

Waited about a day. Then all the sudden, there is was!

I made the device type change pro for about 2 or 3 weeks now. still nothing. I actually get the sound but the image is just black

edit: when I look into the Ring App I can the see the live view video saved
on iOS i get the black screen and on Android I get it too but if I put the video in full screen I get the green screen

I will wait a few more days see if anything changes

just changed mine to Pro in IDE - i have basic

it works fine - you have to view in landscape full screen to see image the preview small window showed no image only a black screen on my iphone

I did try that but its very inconsisten. Yesterday when I tried landscape and full screen it was just a black screen just sound. Earlier I tried and it worked on the regular view first try but trying full screen the screen goes black.
Now I’m trying it’s back to not working in both views

Mine works in the regular preview window if I start it then stopped it then started a second time. Sometimes it takes a third time. I dont get it.

I have the ring doorbell 2 wireless and just changed to the pro in the IDE and now have live feed! Nice one

Wait. So does the Ring Doorbell Pro video feed now work in ST?? Actiontiles??

Yes in ST, not in ActionTiles, yet, @tgauchat?

Unless we can charge a non-trivial add-on fee, the effort to integrate proprietary video feeds is not something we can justify at this time.

Non trivial? I’d gladly pay double.

As “big” as we are in the SmartThings community, Ring doesn’t have a very accessible partnership program. … yet?

There are a few projects that are exploring hacks, and whatnot.

This post, for example, discusses the challenge of obtaining live view, but it may or may not be meaningful anymore:

Next area of interest is the “Amazon Cloud Cam … Cloud”. I think it is “obviously” somewhat highly likely that Amazon will want to consolidate their video offerings onto that platform.

Unlike Wyze Cam, Amazon Cloud Cam actually offers live viewing from a desktop browser. The hurdle to keep in mind is that if Amazon opens up access to a live stream API, then any of a large number of NVRs (such as tinyCam Monitor Pro) can do continuous recording, thus bypassing the $6.99 monthly fee that Amazon charges for this feature.

There’s a difference between technical limitations and business strategy, though. Amazon could open up an API with some sort of guardrail and/or legal protections against continuous recording … though that’s a lot of complexity for an area of business that they may not consider strategic.

I would be fine continuing to pay for the ring online storage service for access to an api that i can use in my own apps/ST.

I think many users would be in the same boat. i dont want to replace the online recording service, just get more info from it to where i want it.

I have a ring doorbell 2 and a ring flood cam. The flood shows up when I install the app but the doorbell does not. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and it just doesn’t show up. I see it in my ring app but not in ST. Thoughts?

This is a current bug that is being worked on.
