They did it to Blink when they bought them - turn off ST support with immediate effect.
- Blink was never officially supported.
- Blink took that action prior to the Amazon acquisition.
- Blink had already done something like that previously, so it wasnāt a new thing for them.
Iāll worry when Alexa is no longer integrated with ST.
I can see it happening, products are beginning to overlap with zigbee now built into the new echo.
The Echo+ isnāt targeted at the same market segment as ST, so while there may be some limited functional overlap there, itās not an indication that Amazon has any reason to sever integration between ST and itās Echo products. In fact that would almost certainly hurt them significantly.
I agree that as of this moment it will hurt them, but I do see a future that when a more complete ecosystem exists for each company (Apple / Google / Amazon / Samsung / Nest) and the products that make up the ecosystem consist of that companies product line, I think that we will begin to see a lot less of the 3rd party integrations / agreements where they are playing nicely together today.
When Samsung ever decides to complete Bixby and it ever comes close to catching up with Echo and GH thatās one more piece of the Samsung puzzle that gets put together.
I see each of these companies competing to build their own ecosystem / infrastructure with their own product line versus allowing others to integrate with them without some sort of additional revenue offset.
I look at SmartThings today and we can buy a Hub at $99 and then spend another $5k on 3rd party products, none of which Samsung makes any additional revenue off of other than the original $99 investment, and that consists of a majority of us alone in the community. I see this changing dramatically in tomorrowās market, whether that be from cloud subscription costs or additional cost where integrating non Samsung/ST products have an additional cost incurred whether it be paying for an additional application or another subscription model.
I just see this coming full circle and the mixing and matching and free for all 3rd party integrations coming to an end or dramatically decreased so that these companies can better contain us within their ecosystem and generate a continuous revenue stream.
My prediction is at some point that DJT & the DOJ will start to view Amazon (along with Facebook, Google & Apple) as monopolies that need to be broken up. Amazon is getting into everythingā¦ online shopping, video, AWS, data collection, echo and its products, just starting a delivery service, bought blink, ring, & Whole Foods. These is talk of pharmacy and health care. Ugh!
Thatās not what a āmonopolyā is.
I got this message āsomethingās wrong we canāt load your screen right nowā when I try to add ring video doorbell into smartthings. or when I remove the smartapp. I have added it before but it suddenly doesnāt work and I canāt remove the device directly from mm smartthings, there I removed it in ide. I then got the error. anyone know whats the fix? I also tried to use another device and reinstall the app.
In the ST app, in Automation: SmartApps, do you have a Ring (Connect) app?
yes I do, I canāt remove it. it gives the same message when I try to access it
In that app, if you go to the section Use these Ring Devices: and deselect your ring doorbell, click done and click saveā¦ does it remove the doorbell from your Things list?
This concerns me cause Iām thinking of buying a new nu8500 cause it says smart th8ngs really in it unlike the 2016. I just purchased 2 Ring 2s with pro chimes. I would think all the people that have purchased all the ring original. Now Iām not sure if I want the new tv. Thatās the reason I bought smart thing was it works with so many items.
Whats really ironic is mine had been working but Ring send me a email saying there was something wrong with mine and offered a free replacement. I got the new one, changed it out, added it back to smartthings and now mine is all green while it was working fine before.
How did you get the video feed up @milandjurovic71 - is not working on mine and just shows the grey bell screen?
This works for the Video Doorbell Pro, but Iām not sure it does for the battery powered Video Doorbell.
I have a powered from bell wiring Ring Doorbell 2.
- When using the Doorbell DTH I get the grey bell screen
- When using the Doorbell Pro DTH I get a green screen with some video
I actually had to remove my doorbell from SmartThings and then remove the Ring SmartApp and then re-add everything in order to get this to work. Not sure exactly why, but it works now and shows the video.
If you view the video in SmartThings, it does save it to your Ring Cloud account as a Live View.
Hi, is your doorbell wired or battery powered? Just wondering if anyone has got a battery powered doorbell to show video?
Wired, sorry.
