Through the SmartThings app or through the native Ring app?
There was a rumor that more in-depth Ring integration was coming to ST but don’t hold anyone to that.

i have the ring app, but would of been nice to get to Smartthings or actiontiles.
im playing now with the motion turning on lights etc. so not sure wether to return and get a doorbell and a camera system?
Chris
How can I get the Ring.com to notify me know there is motion. I have the doorbell set up and showing in the app. I do see the activity (which is all good) but I simply do not get notified with there is motion. How can I get a notification on my phone?
For those looking to buy and want to know what it’s like as a Motion sensor in ST app.
It’s nothing like a standalone motion sensor - expect delays - I’m using it as a porch light trigger, so when motion is detected, turn on porch light. In some cases, I’ve already made it into the house before the light eventually comes on.
The Ring app should notify you anyway but you can include your Ring doorbell in your automations/SmartApps as a motion sensor.
Granted it’s not quite as quick as a normal Z-Wave motion sensor for example, it’s not a million miles off, maybe a quarter of a second to half a second delay. Mine is enough so that by the time someone has entered the detection zone and taken the extra couple of steps after that to the door, the lights have already changed outside.
I installed a 5ghz wifi extension close to the door to increase the signal to the Ring Pro to help reduce lag. I also set the motion sensitivity in ring to 100%. Of course I get notified when the wind blows. But it’s nice to review my videos and see the lights turn on as the thiefs that broke into several cars in my gated community walk past my house without considering the car in my driveway.
So I’d like to set up the doorbell and chime (or some sort of connected speaker placed by the front door) to play dog barking sounds when someone rings the bell and mode=away. Is this something I can do with an Echo and or the Ring Chime? Or do I need a Sonos speaker?
You can use WebCORE and any speaker that can integrate with ST but not the echo or ring chime. Sonos will work or you can get a cheap fabriq speaker on amazon for $40 (or cheaper if you catch them on sale)
Any ideas on opening the video feed directly on an IPAD2 when someone rings the bell? I saw on youtube someone using a Samsung tab with 3 party apps but that route is expensive for me I want to use my existing tablet instead of buying.
Not possible on the iPad. The only option is to enabled notifications. When you receive a notification, you click on it and the Ring app opens.
Darn, I already have a chime laying around somewhere and a spare echo dot. I will look into the Fabriq speaker. Thanks.
The Ring Chime has its own dog barking sound built into it. You can’t tie the use of the dog sound to the current ST mode, but it is there and usable from within the Ring app. Its pretty loud too.
Hmm…maybe I can use the chime with a smart plug that only turns on when mode=away. I’ll have to test it out. I’m not sure if the doorbell will have issues reconnecting to the chime when power is restored.
I’ve had the power cut in my house / unplugged the Chime multiple times and it has generally been absolutely fine.
Your idea should work.
I have my chime connected to a smart plug so it turns off when my baby goes for naps (triggered by putting on the Sonos speaker in the nursery for white noise) and it works fine. The chime reconnects to the WiFi within seconds of the plug being switched back on. Although having a chime is rather redundant if you have Sonos speakers given that you can use Core to generate a notification on them too.
Use a refurbished fire hd 8 from woot and either WebCoRe or Lannouncer. But the chime will do sounds for you as well.
Marc, They all come with 4 changeable faceplates: Silver, White, Black and, yes, BRONZE.
Oh dear!
Could this be the end of support for SmartThings?
there is a thread on Amazon buying Ring…
Why would it be?
