Ring Video Doorbell

I don’t think so; but I hope I’m wrong or the situation changes soon.

Reference Reddit (8 months ago?):

Probably never going to happen I’m afraid, their video streams are also a revenue stream for them.

We might see it in SHM on SmartThings but it’s still unlikely.

Darn. Thanks. I thought it’d make a nice addition to a tile on my action tile panel.

We wish!

I wonder if there is a way for Ring customers to ask them nicely and be convincing?

What is their monthly fee?

$3 per month, or $30 for the year (for the first device). Less for 2nd, 3rd, etc. devices.

At the very least, allowing us to do an occasional ‘still’ would be nice.

Well… That’s better than Kuna!

I wonder if someone will figure out how to hack the firmware on these…

I received this from Ring today…

Good Afternoon!

Thank you for the suggestion, our engineers are aware of the desire for us to release an API so that users can add features and hopefully will do this soon.

Best,

I think they can do it. You need your Ring account info to link to ST, so they could probably grant access to ST to identify a user that has a video feed subscription then the problem will be solved, or automatically grant live feed access once your account was verified with ring and ST. Now, I am a not programmer, and I have no idea how that can be accomplished, but it’s a thought on how I think it can be done…

To be fair, Ring does not currently offer a live feed option on their website either which is really odd to me.

Anyone found any way to arm/disarm motion sensor outside the ring app?
Like in ifttt, tasker, smart app or anything?

Hey all,

Anyone notice that the status of their Ring doesn’t change after an action? e.g. after the doorbell is rung the ST status says “ding-dong!” and stays that way indefinitely. Same thing for “motion detected” - I tripped the motion several minutes ago and the ST status still shows as such, even after refreshing.

Just tested here, and all is working as expected. About an hour ago I was away from home, and it worked as expected when a delivery person showed up.

Mine always flips back to “ready” although I can’t say I’ve ever watched it to see how long that takes.

Any updates on this? Also - with the Ring Doorbell, are you planning on integrating it like you did with Skybell for snapshots, recording etc?

Hopefully the floodlight cameras are also on the list, would be nice to automate the siren amongst other things like snapshots and videos.

Is it possible to toggle the motion detection from Smartthings? I don’t really like the idea that everyone in the family gets an alert every time someone else in the family returns home, as it feels like you’re snooping on everyone’s comings and goings, so would like to create a CoRE piston that disables the motion detection for a window after a presence sensor arrives.

Your CoRE rule would be somethign like “If motion detected AND presence is away, then alert…”… webCoRE is in beta btw… much easier to build out pistons than CoRE…

Yeah I’ve been meaning to port my dozens of pistons over to webCoRE
for a while now - never seem to get time…
I’m happy creating a piston, but was just checking that the Ring
device handler allowed you to toggle the motion detection.

You’re not toggling the motion detection itself, rather notifying through CoRE or webCoRE… you would turn off motion detection in the ring app on all the phones that have it installed… that’s what I do…

Okay, I know this is going to be a ‘D’oh’ moment, but I’ve installed my Ring doorbell in ST but the only options I see when I click on it in Devices is “Ready” and the “refresh” arrow. Should I be seeing anything else?
