Having the Chime behavior modified by ST Mode would be a reasonable use case. I’m sure some parents would appreciate that ability.
Ring seems very focused on security first. Their entire Neighborhood program is about community crime reduction. I’d expect features related to that to be the ones they prioritize.
…such as automatically triggering Rings’ 40s video recording when the SMH detects an Intrusion.
You can’t at the moment, @cslee was giving me a pretty damn good use case for integrating the Ring Chime after I said I don’t see why it would need to be integrated.
I’m now a convert after cslee’s post, Chime integration (as a siren device or something) would actually be very cool/useful.
EDIT: Oh gees, you can’t even say “d a m n” any more without being censored. Let’s say “darn good use case” then.
Sometimes people knock on our door, instead of ringing the bell
I already have the SmartThings Multi Sensor set up to send me a push notification when a knock is detected but it would be really great if this could trigger my “Ring Chime” to alert me to the knock in the same way as it does with a push of the doorbell button.
You can set the Ring Chime to go off in the same way for motion, as it does a button press. This is the settings on the Chime under the Linked Devices option:
Thanks, Benji…I should’ve explained in greater detail…
Good tip but I already have my Ring Chimes set to go off for motion but, because of the layout of the houses, my neighbours are always triggering the motion detection with their cars & I get a different sound from the Chimes to the one when the doorbell is actually pressed.
It would be nice if I could get the exact same sound as a doorbell press when someone is actually at the door which needs a response but they only knock.
I only have the original “Ring” device (not the “Pro” version), so the motion detection isn’t quite as configurable…
I’m having the same issue with my Ring Pro. I didn’t have this issue with the standard Ring using IFTT. It seems the Pro is much more sensitive. I tried setting zones that didn’t have any reflecting surfaces, but ultimately I have to set it to “people only” to keep it from looping on and off. Which sucks because I like video capturing car activity in the street. It still feels like there’s something that could be done with the firmware in Ring, or timing the rule(s) just right so that the lighting off doesn’t trigger the motion sensing. I’ll try your suggestion of 0 minutes. I might also try reinstalling the standard ring and see if it behaves better. Regardless, I’m glad this integration showed up, IFTT had started lagging up to 8 minutes this Fall which made it useless.
In this situation where I have the lights going off after the proper completion of the piston firing due to a true state with motion from the Ring doorbell, can I have the piston check to see if it’s just completed running (in the last 2 minutes for instance) and then, if true, don’t run again ? I think this might defeat the problem where the lights cutting off are erroneously triggering motion on the doorbell and almost immediately setting off the piston again turning the lights right back on (a loop). I’m wondering if the CoRE piston could have a variable it could check to see if it’s just triggered in the last 2 minutes and, if so, return a FALSE (etc etc) to keep the lights from turning right back on ?
Using the RING PLUS feature, what do you think would be the best way to use that button to open a door…
A way id considered was using the wemo integration ring plus offers to trigger a WEMO MAKER which then triggers a door lock direct or a sensor in smartthings which then sorts the lock…
RING are really missing a trick not having an “UNLOCK” or “ACTION” button in their app which can trigger ifftt actions or web requests etc . . . image the ease of that instead of having to launch a third party app from within the ring app to go back to their app to close the intercom/call once opened or actioned.
Yes, there’s already Ring integration (although not for UK folk), though not this feature. The rest works great without introducing the annoying IFTTT middleman.
I hope they sort this feature - its bare basics to want to unlock a door/gate once you have video doorbelled someone - i may mockup the whole idea and present it to RING to open their eyes — do they have a developer community like us?
ill get some printscreens of the app and mock up the proccess and best way i feel would present it in app and send to them this week in the hopes it gets taken onboard — they may already have plans in place but be nice to inspire them if we could fingers crossed we see something this year that fits the bill
