RELEASE: Welcome Home greeting SmartApp

Here’s something I wrote to learn the platform. It ain’t fancy, but it does what it’s supposed to.

All it does is keep a list of what presence sensors have arrived since the last time any of a list of doors have been opened, and then greets them by name. I was previously doing this with CoRE, but I had a heck of a time getting the logic to welcome more than one person at once. This app will do that, e.g., “Welcome home, Bob and Alice!”

Let me know if you’d like to see anything else in it!

Would love to use this but I have a newbie question.

Can you explain the basic hardware needed to support the use of your app?

I have an Echo Dot and a Denon receiver that I could potentially use as the speaker in the solution but I’m not at all clear on what supplies the audio files and or converts text into speech.

Happy to go read if someone will point to a good thread.

Many thanks!

Jeff

Sonos works out of the box, but any DNLA audio receiver can work with SmartThings with this. There’s a list of working devices in that thread. I built my own with a Raspberry Pi like this.
