[EDGE] Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Gen) Edge Driver

Thanks, that did it!

@GrimDanFango @blashman @Matthew_Stewart
We now have a device handler for the Ring Gen1 keypads. Note the feature differences between Gen1 and Gen2 keypads in the keypad comparison table, Gen1 does not support Sirens, Arming and Chimes, only the Gen2 supports those features:

Fantastic job!
In the meanwhile I got an Iris v3 as an alternative.
Just preparing everything to add it to the network.

My Keypad Device now only updates status in one Direction.
I’m using Rboys DH and Smart App.
How do I get the Wedcore Code to make it work ?

So I have everything finally setup with the device handler and the automations and ULM. I was wondering how to setup a automation so I can trigger the Away, Stay, Disarm icons on the STHM

Currently I have setup the automation for Stay and try to run it from STHM is runs fine but when I try to disarm it acts like it disarms but goes back to a Stay arm state

From the first post:

STHM Synchronization

If you’re trying to sync the keypad to STHM by changing the STHM mode in the SmartThings app you’ll need to use two way synchronization

So I created the the 3 virtual switches with in the first link for they keypad

Do I need to make two more virtual switches for the two way synchronization?

I was finally able to fix my issue and everything is working as expected. Thanks @RBoy @mvevitsis for pointing me in the right direction and for the excellent step by step instructions

I finally realized the problem I am having with my Ring Keypad is that I punch the numbers in too slow. If I hit them really fast, it works every time. How do I change the Ring Keypad pinCode Timeout?
Is there a WebCore command string to set pinCode Timeout?

You can adjust the pin entry timeout from the device settings page in the SmartThings mobile app

Found it - Thank you!

When using as a home alarm with STHM or other alarm apps, is there a light to indicate whether the alarm is armed or not? Thanks!

I followed all the instructions for synchronization, but I have 2 keypads (one for my front entrance, and one for the back entrance). When I disarm they seem to get stuck in a loop and keep bouncing back and forth between the two saying that the system is disarmed. Does anyone know why this would be happening or what the solution is to resolve this?

@AfternoonSnack - It does have 3 indicator lights on the keypad that show current armed state or disarmed. These light up once the keypad is approached.

@Ryan_Birch - I also have not been able to solve this on disarm. I get three disarm messages on my keypads. I gave up trying to solve it. I tried to add delays and variables into my Webcore code and haven’t fixed it.

Planning to ditch my 2-gig/Alarm.com security system and move to something else. I already have Z-wave sensors on all doors/windows. I’m just looking for perimeter monitoring. A few questions:

If I go with this approach instead of a Ring Alarm system, am I only forgoing the ability to have it monitored remotely (which isn’t critical to me and is costing me $800/yr)?

What’s your sense of the longevity of this approach? Will it die when they kill WebCORE and IDE?

I should know this, but I haven’t been tracking things carefully: will a smartapp like this run locally?

Hi,

I have just set this up and all works fine besides when disarming the notification for “Disarmed” is repeated a few times, “Arming” is fine.

I see some other people above have been asking this.

Any reason for this?

Thanks

@RBoy I just purchased and setup my Ring Keypad Gen2. I installed the device handler, got the keypad paired with my ST hub. In ST I can send commands such as arm and disarm to the keypad, it responds to the command. I then installed LUM, using the keypad and a 6 digit code to turn on a virtual switch. But I seem to be stuck getting ST to see any transmissions from the keypad. Nothing happens when I enter the 6 digit code. Looking at the history in the keypad, it shows nothing for any keystrokes on the keypad (I’m assuming it’s suppose to). I don’t believe this is a signal strength issue, I tested it with the hub and keypad on the same table. Any input would be appreciated!

Not at this time. :disappointed_relieved: no custom code runs locally right now, so this keypad can’t run locally.

They keep saying there will be more local processing in the future, but it hasn’t happened yet, and they actually took away some of the local processing for the security features with the move to the current app. And in any case smartthings has no way to send any notifications to you locally, not even just your own phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Anything that’s smartthings based just isn’t a substitute for a real home security system, Even an inexpensive one like ring.

You might not be paired correctly. Try remove and repair the device
