Is no one worried about how this damages a typical HVAC system? Does the code have protection built in to disallow too many closed vents?
The major concerns are two-fold. One, the back-pressure causes ducting to tear, and Two, the lack of airflow across the main components can cause them to freeze over. Basically unintended side-effects.
You’d need protection built in to ensure longevity, or to own a system that had protection built in, that’s already safe to use micromanaged vent solutions like these. Some can vary the fan speeds, etc, which make this a non-problem.
Today, I added the “send notifications to Ask Alexa” features.
Here is the list of changes:
Added “Ask Alexa” Notifications in the Notifications Page. By setting to true, you’ll be able
to read and play messages from the smartapp by interacting with Amazon echo/Ask Alexia.
Some safeguards notifications will be sent to Alexa when applicable (ex. ratio of open vents/total vents is too low) and when your thermostat is set to away or present based on motion.
Please note that you need version 2.1.3a of Ask Alexia to make it work. Please refer to this thread below for more details.
The smartapps are available for download at my store:
I’ve been using Yves’ heating/cooling solutions apps for almost 10 months now with my 4 Keen smart vents. My 2nd floor bedrooms were always much too hot in the summer & cold in the winter due to a poor design by the HVAC “professionals”. Now with the Keen Smart Vents and Yves’ app, my first and 2nd floors are balanced to within 2 degrees. I don’t let the vents close to less than 20% and with only 4 smart vents it doesn’t put too much back pressure on the system. This setup saved me $7500 which was the quote I got to convert my HVAC system to 2 ducted zones.
I’ve been using Yves Ecobee en keen vents apps for a few month and the do a really good job. And every time i had questions I contacted Yves and he promptly respond them,
This app is great! It has been helping cool and heat my home evenly! It has saved us money as well by having the option to not heat or cool unoccupied rooms. Would highly suggest to anyone with smarthing , keen vents and a smart thermostat.
Love this app and integration! I have several Keen vents and an Ecobee 3 and this has been great to even out the heating and cooling in our split level!
Today,I released a new version of ecobeeSetZoneWithSchedule, ScheduleTstatZones, and ScheduleRoomTempControl with better logging & notification control.
The new versions are available for download at my store:

Hi, if you have any issue with my solutions, please send an email to services@maisonsecomatiq.com as it’s easier for me to get the context of your issue through gmail conversations.
For the “errors” above, it seems that your sensors don’t allow the refresh command sent to them to be executed properly. Probably, they don’t support the “refresh” command, although they have the “refresh” capability.
So, it’s not my code per se, but the fact that they don’t properly support the refresh capability that is causing those messages. You don’t need to worry about them as long as their temperature reporting is up to date.
