[RELEASE] MatterCameras Bridge - Bring ANY ONVIF/RTSP Camera natively to SmartThings via Matter 1.5

I’m excited to share an open-source project I’ve been developing: MatterCameras.

It is a standalone bridge with a clean Web UI that takes standard RTSP/ONVIF streams and exposes them natively to SmartThings using the new Matter 1.5 WebRTC standard.

Main Benefits:

  • 100% Local Execution: Fast, direct streaming to your hub (I’m currently running it flawlessly on my v4 Samjin / ThingsOne hub).

  • Universal Compatibility: I have successfully tested it with Reolink, UniFi, Tapo, Sonoff, and Intelbras cameras. If it has an RTSP link, you can bridge it.

  • Simple Dashboard: You don’t need to be an expert to use it. Just add the camera URL in the Web UI, scan the Matter QR code, and it appears in your SmartThings app.

You can check out the source code, screenshots, and the installation guide on my GitHub repository here: :backhand_index_pointing_right: GitHub - patricktd/MatterCameras: Export Cameras to Matter · GitHub

I also recorded a full video demonstrating the bridge in action. The audio is in Portuguese, but I believe that if you turn on YouTube’s auto-translated subtitles, you can follow along perfectly: :television: https://youtu.be/-iBD2aoOA4I

I’d love for you guys to test it out, report any bugs, and share your feedback!

This is amazing! Do you think it would work on my 10yo raspberrypi that I am using for some other smartthings apps?

Thanks a lot! I can’t say for sure, because camera codecs generally use more CPU. But give it a try and let me know.

Hi,

It’s avaliable from outside LAN?

From my testing, I can only see the camera feed when inside home. If I test using mobile data, the camera feed isn’t avaliable!

This is nice. Any chance one could build this to run on a popular NAS like Synology?
