I seem to be confused about the repeater functionality on this device. Is it a z-wave only repeater or does it also repeat zigbee?

About 99% of ZigBee devices that plug in (I’m sure there’s exceptions) repeat ZigBee, including this one.

The first post already says:

At this point you should have two different devices added to your home, one Zigbee switch (which also acts as a Zigbee repeater) and one Z-Wave repeater.

Hmm… yes, it is buried in the z-wave repeater section in paranthesis.

You can’t do anything with the repeater, so as long as it’s on the network, that should be enough. It should automatically repeat. But as others have mentioned in this thread, it doesn’t seem to be 100% reliable at Z wave repeating.

Guys - I made an attempt to get all my answers from this thread, but it is too long to scan. To clarify I am using @blebson DH.

In this post (from above) you can see that the power reporting events are showing in the “Recently” page. Mine are not, is there something I should be doing?

I can view my wattage usage on the bottom of the Tile or in the “Recently” tab of the device. The device also reports each measurement in the “Live Logging” screen of the IDE. [image] [image]

Hi all, Here’s a write-up of how I’m using InfluxDB and Grafana to visualise SmartThings device states in charts and dashboards. The solution uses a custom SmartApp I’ve written to send data from SmartThings to InfluxDB. Crucially it supports the database server being on the same private LAN as the SmartThings hub, so there’s no need to make your database server accessible from the internet. That’s what I was afraid of.

I tried white electrical tape, but then the whole case just glows blue. Oh well, I’ll have to find a different solution for this location.

Anyone else noticed erratic behavior as of late on this device? I have a few that just keep bouncing around from 40 w to 200 w within milliseconds…They used to stay around 40 w…(I tried both handlers the SmartSense and @blebson 's handler - same result)

Did you try increasing the min reporting interval?

Now the custom device handler has parameters for min and max interval that you can set from the UI.

I don’t know if the reported power is an average over the last reporting interval, or instantaneous power at that particular time, if the latter is the case, yes. But from experience (I modified my ST outlet to measure energy too) I can tell you that either way, we’re not very accurate either way: and it’s all got to do with timing and the inherent event delays with ST. For those who need accuracy, they can go to 1s, but if you want to use this with CoRE, you’ll trigger that piston every one second… lots of load on the system, better off with 30s reports. But to deny your statement: you’re right EDIT: Oh, also, there are some parameters in there that override the 30s min interval if the power change was larger than X%. I can look it up and find which one, maybe …

I did a few tests with 30 and 60 sec min update. I found that large changes are not reported immediately. It sticks to the min interval. It’s not a big deal. My difference between idle power and all devices turned on is about 250W. If my interval is set to 60 sec in the worst case scenario I will have 0.0042kWh error every time I turn on or off. And because when I turn on and off the error will be either positive or negative, the overall will be even less.

My z-wave repeater is showing as inactive in the IDE. Is this normal?

If the z-wave radio is registered to the hub’s z-wave network, it shouldn’t matter if it’s reporting status back to ST or not, so this may be normal.

There is nothing in the log for either of my smart plugs though…one says failed to update mesh on z-wave repair, the other doesn’t show as an error though. Just not sure if it’s working or not
