Reinventing Payphones in New York

“In a contest that it’s billing as the first of its kind in the world, the Bloomberg administration is calling on techies, urban designers, and policy wonks to reinvent the payphone for the 21st Century.”

It’s fun to think about whether a phone booth connected to the open physical graph could be transformed into something useful again. Does repurposing this existing infrastructure make sense to you or has it been completely replaced by mobile devices?

I haven’t read all the contest terms and rules, but maybe there’s an interesting mash-up or dual-entry approach with this contest and the SmartThings Developer & Maker Contest Series.
