So I’ve had the HomeSeer HS-FS100-L Z-Wave Dual Sensor & Buzzer for a few years now, working great, to alert me when it detects an LED indicator light go off. I had been running it on batteries, and they needed a change. When I changed them, Smartthings acted as if it was a new device. I know that happens, so, I readded the device, however all the fingerprint information comes back as 0’s, so, it won’t load the proper driver. it just assigns it as a generic Z-Wave switch.
I know that when that happens and you get 0’s for the manufacturer and device ID, etc, you’re supposed to bring it as close to the hub as possible and add it again. So, I’ve done that multiple times, and, it adds the device, but same zero information.
I know this device is now discontinued, and out of warranty. I can’t help but think the device is still okay however, because if I try to “turn on” the device (because ST thinks its a switch, it gives me a button to press), I can see that it sends a command to the FS-100, and it receives it, and gives me an audible beep.
So . . is there any way that I can manually assign the device ID information to this, so that I can give it the right driver, and test to see if it still works?
(and, I guess bonus follow up question . . if this IS dead, does anyone have any idea for a replacement device that can report back the status of an LED light? My searching is coming up empty)
Well, I didn’t have to do anything special (that I recall) when I added the device when I first got it (but that was 2 or 3 years ago now). It doesn’t have a QR code, so, that’s not an option. I don’t think I’ve heard of the DSK before though.
The old architecture was far more lenient when it came to S2 security. Edge architecture is more picky and particularly since the device fingerprint is used to select the right driver and driver profile.
According to the Z-Wave Alliance product certification, the device supports S2. It should either have a QR code on the device or there should be a printed version of the public key highlighting the DSK portion (first 16 bytes) of the key. It would normally be on the packaging or possibly a separate sticker.
I would suggest the following:
Do a general exclusion by putting the device in pairing mode and triggering a exclusion from the ST app or the AWA
Okay, I put my device in pairing mode, then did the exclusion. First time it didn’t do anything, but the second time it said 1 device removed.
But the device was still listed in smartthings. So I had to force delete it from there.
I factory reset and paired . . but, same result as before. Just generic Z-Wave switch with no fingerprint.
At no point does it ask me for this DSK. I found a sticker with 4 digits and a letter . . . not sure if that’s it, but . . it never asked me for it, and I don’t see anywhere to put it either.
When I add the device, I get the message “some security features not suported” and then it tells me “your device is now connected, but it doesn’t support hte latest z-wave security standards” blah blah blah.
