Quirky Tripper Support?

You’re trying to create a new SmartApp. You want to create a new Device Handler.

Well, as of today my tripper no longer connects.

I tried resetting it but it isn’t discovered anymore.

Here’s what I’m doing:

  1. Set app to discover new things.
  2. Hold down “tamper” switch.
  3. Remove battery.
  4. Replace battery.
  5. Release tamper switch.
  6. The green light comes on, then flashes three times three times.
  7. Never connects.

:frowning:

Did you delete the old one device it was paired as? If I don’t devices will usually not pair back up.

I may try that. I never had to before. I got so frustrated with it, I ended up taking it down and putting up another one instead. Will report back if I get up the will to try it again.

I have the same issue with one of my trippers

I can pair with Wink hub, but when i try to pair with ST, it does not pair…

Only thing i can think of is that the Wink hub may have upgraded the firmware on the unit making it inoperable with ST

there are no logs in the IDE

thanks

Update: i was able to pair the Trippers, they show up as Thing with the following data

Data
application: 18
endpointId: 01
manufacturer: Sercomm Corp.
model: Tripper
Raw Description 01 0104 0402 00 06 0000 0001 0003 0500 0020 0B05 02 0003 0019

Type: 3-in-1 MultiSensor (SG)

then i can EDIT and select the correct device handler from IDE

Even after performing the above steps, the tripper does not register open/close, tamper switch status or battery level in ST

I don’t see any logs in the live logging for the Tripper being generated

Only thing i see in the logs that may be related is
getChildDevices(true), children=3

which i get when i remove and reinsert the battery in the unit

Appreciate your help in fixing this if possible

thanks

That’s interesting that it says the Mfg is Sercomm. Might be a new version.

After changing the device type, you’d need to factory reset the Tripper and re-join. Don’t delete it in ST. Just reset the Tripper and re-join. It’s not receiving the initial configuration commands if you just change the type.

Mitch … that worked…

Thanks for your help

Now on to the other 23…

I am still having issues where it will not change from “OPEN” and display the battery %. I have tried everything above. Any tips? Mine is Sercomm. Thanks!

I am stuck as well. I have 4 trippers I was using with Wink and they work great.

I created the device handler in the IDE and saved and published to myself
I start a pair in the mobile APP
I hold tamper switch and install battery in the tripper
It finds a THING
The only thing that is editable in the THING is the location
I go back to IDE and SET LOCATION and EDIT PREFERENCES in the device handler
The tripper is now paired and configured as a Quirky/Wink Tripper but I do not get any state changes. It just shows OPEN all the time.

Any ideas. Using V2 Hub.

I also have issues with the Quirky Tripper, and it does not change from “OPEN”.
I got 2 pcs of Tripper and got it worked before some months ago. Today I pair them again to try but not working.

I have them paired and can see the association from zigbee sniffer. Smartthings app show an unknown Thing, but it does not work after changing the device type to one from Mitch Pond (refer to reply #207). My app version is 2.1.4.

Any idea? Thank you for advice.

After you pair in ST, change the device handler in IDE and repeat the paring process by holding the tamper switch down(do not delete from ST)

I needed this extra step for my trippers to show up in ST

thanks

Thanks Devesh. I still had no luck. Let me recap what I am doing in case I am missing something.

  1. Created the device handler using the latest code from mitchpond
  2. Saved and published to myself
  3. Remove Battery from Tripper
  4. In the Mobile App Goto Marketplace and Connect New Device
  5. Replace battery in Tripper while holding tamper switch… solid light appeas for about 3 seconds followed by a flashing light
  6. Mobile App finds a device called Thing
  7. Back to IDE and from the My Device Tab I edit the device called Thing
  8. Change the device type to mitchponds Quirky / Wink Tripper
  9. Update optional Hub and Group Settings
  10. Save
  11. Check the device in the Mobile App to see if it is working… its not… shows Status OPEN with no status changes
  12. Remove battery from tripper and replace while holding the tamper button.
  13. No change… stuck on OPEN

Additionally I have also gone into the My Device Handler Section
Chose mitchpond Quirky / Wink Tripper
Clicked Set Location
Clicked Device
Clicked Thing
Clicked Intall

No luck with that approach as well.

Anything I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

Add step 12 to put hub in pairing mode

  1. Remove battery and hold tamper switch down…

Thanks… I believe I was doing that before… but before I tried again I restarted the hub.

Now on step 12 when I try to repair the tripper it does not find any new things. Spins and Spins.

Correct. It will keep spinning. Just cancel and go back to the thing and try the sensor now

That worked! Thanks for your help Devesh!

Glad it worked out…

these products are truly “quirky” …

I’ve updated the links in this thread to point to the correct location for the current handler and added a fingerprint for the Sercomm variant. This should help with the pairing process and avoid them pairing as Things.

@mitchp Mitch, Probably me being a little dense here, but which links? I typically go back to the OP for the latest, but that doesn’t seem to be right in this case (plus, the OP isn’t from you). Thanks!
