Post Requests for LAN/WIFI Edge Drivers Here (community-created)

The Tasmota Edge driver is 100% local vs eWeLink cloud. Could you let me know where is slow for you?

If this is slow, I think even if there is a Tuya local driver, it would still be slow for you.

Is there still nothing for Awair?

Looking for edge drivers for:

Meross Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener

Model# MSG100

Meross devices use the official cloud to cloud integration that is already using the new architecture. They don’t use edge drivers. Edge drivers are for hub-connected devices.

If you were looking for an Edge Driver because you were hoping for local operation, keep your fingers crossed on Matter.

Meross WiFi devices DO run locally with Apple’s HomeKit. Since Matter is based in part on a similar architecture, we can hope that once Matter support arrives, those devices will be able to run locally with SmartThings, too. But no promises: we’ll just have to wait and see.

Thank you. If we are using the vEdge creator and have the Meross garage door sync to a vEdge device, will we have local control of the native Meross garage door?

Unfortunately no. The connection to the Meross device remains cloud to cloud at this time. So the communication between the VEdge device and Meross still needs the cloud.

Again, Matter could change that, so fingers crossed.

Can anyone confirm if Belkin WeMo will need an edge driver?

Which device? There is an official integration for Belkin in Add Device > by Brand

Edge Drivers are for hub-connected devices, usually zwave or Zigbee. Most WiFi devices will not use Edge Drivers.

It’s not clear what is going to happen with Thread devices yet.

Wemo uses a LAN integration. When you add a Wemo device it goes to the searching screen instead of sending you to an authentication screen to login with your credentials. I have not heard specifically if it wil be migrated or not. Might be a good sign it isn’t listed in the FAQ list of devices that will stop working?

I use a Meross plug and it works from anywhere I have WiFi or cell coverage. I just rebooted mine a few days ago from 400 miles (644 km) away.

An edge driver for Skybell Doorbell, it don’t seem that they want to provide one and I need that quiet mode function for some automation

Just want to say I’m pissed that Awair has tossed their official integration. Someone should sue them.

I have seen that it can be associated with IFTTT. For the same reason I will do so, if I cannot see it from Smartthings.

Yes please. Anyone able to do this?

Not an easy integration. The python library referenced uses a reverse engineered internet API to get and control the device. I don’t see any local control abilities for the devices themselves. As Edge hubs are limited to socket communication on the local LAN only, an external app would be required to perform the API functions and feed the data to Edge via HTTP or MQTT or some other mechanism. That app would need to be hosted on a local machine external to the hub.

There appears to already be an integration with the Levoit API thru IFTTT. That would be a much easier option to communicate with SmartThings.
