Parent/Child devices with Alexa?

So I’m starting to write a smartapp/device handler for the HTD MC-66 whole house audio controller. It supports 6 zones and 6 input sources.

I’d like to create a parent device and then child devices for each zone so that the iOS app isn’t flooded with a bunch of new devices, like it does with the Harmony plugin for each activity. But I’m unsure/afraid that if I go this way control the zones and select the sources via Alexa voice control which is my ultimate goal.

Does anyone have any experience with Parent/Child devices and Alexa? I’ve found some other whole house audio controller devices here: https://github.com/redloro/smartthings/tree/master/devicetypes/redloro-smartthings and looks like each zone is an individual device. Not sure if that’s the “best” way or just one way of doing things.

Nobody has any guidance or feedback?
