Offline devices after power outage

It’s been a little over a year since I set up my smart lighting system. It works great and meets all my needs. Only issue I have is when the power goes out I often get random plugs and/or can lights that don’t come back on-line. The only fix I have found so far it to get a ladder and unplug any devices that are offline, plug them back in and re-add them to their original app as new devices. It’s a real pain and I know there has to be a better way.

  • Aeotec hub

  • Kitchen

    • 3 zooz zen32 scene controllers, all set with Load Control Disabled and Restore Prior Status After Power Failure on
    • 1 Halo RL56 can light
    • 4 HLB Smart Wi-Fi Slim Canless LED Downlights Connected by WiZ Pro (edited)
    • 5 Meross Smart Plug Minis over cabinets with Tuya smart led strips plugged into them
  • Porch

    • Zooz zen73 toggle with set with Relay Control Enabled and Restore Prior Status After Power Failure on
    • 3 Meross msldbr can lights

I thought about setting up a routine based on offline status of the devices but that’s not an option. Also thought about putting my wifi router on a UPS so it doesn’t go off during power outage but I’m not sure if that would fix the problem if the devices are still losing power.

Try cycling the circuit breaker that controls the affected lights. It might work without needing a ladder.

Are these the Meross devices that need to be added back to their original app? Do they still work from the original app? If they do, you can simply go to linked services in the ST app and refresh it. Menu > Settings > Linked services.

Just clarify which devices need to be reconnected through their original app?

I would group these into different categories, each would have its own possible problem/solution.

  1. The Zooz devices, being Zwave managed by the hub directly, should return upon power restore without any issues.
  2. The Meross devices use a cloud-to-cloud integration, where the local device communicates with the Meross cloud, it then communicates with the ST cloud, then back to your hub. Management of the device itself (adding/deleting/resetting) is in the Meross app directly.
  3. The Halo RL56 I assume are the Zigbee versions? This should be similar to the Zooz devices, managed directly by the hub.

Which devices exactly are you having trouble with and how easy is it to duplicate the problem? If you turn off the breaker to the various hardwired devices can you duplicate it?

It could be either the Halo cans or the Meross plugs that have to be reconnected. They aren’t connected in the native apps either.

The Halo cans are connected by “manufacturer cloud”.

I had an unexpected situation today. I had to unplug my modem and main wifi router today to connect them to a battery backup. After that one of the can lights went offline. I moved my hub after that and when I restarted it I was able to reconnect using the Offline Diagnostics in the Smartthings app.

Do you think having my modem, router and hub all on a 20ms battery backup will prevent this?

I just edited my device list, 4 of the cans are HLB Smart Wi-Fi Slim Canless LED Downlights Connected by WiZ Pro and can only connect via the Wiz Pro App.
