[OBSOLETE] IKEA Trådfri Bulb Device Type

Thank you Edvald for the DTH!

So far everything works great for me with the E26 980 model. My only issue is that when I go to set up a scene the lowest setting I can use is 2700K and not the 2200K the bulb is capable of doing. Is there any way to change that?

Hmm, i have no idea why the scene setup only allows you to go to 2700k.
Either something needs to be added to the DTH to inform scene setup of the actual capabilities or it’s a limitation of the scene setup.

It might be a case of SmartThings just assuming(hardcoding) that all color temp bulbs are 2700k to 6500k, i’m leaning towards this as ZLL White Color Temperature Bulb 5000K also gets a slider with 2700-6500.
If anyone knows a way to solve it i would gladly add it to the DTH.

Thanks for the handler and instructions, I’ve added an E13 bulb (with the Ikea steering wheel dimmer) and it all works great. I bought four of the new GU10 bulbs (without colour temp)- but Smartthings just picks it up as ‘Thing’ with the generic Smartthings logo, I’m guessing the device handler doesn’t support the new GU10

(New one is http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/lighting/smart-lighting/trådfri-led-bulb-gu10-400-lumen-wireless-dimmable-warm-white-art-80365270/ -

The older one with colour temperature adjustment is this one (has a larger body, doesn’t fit in my light fittings)
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/lighting/smart-lighting/trådfri-led-bulb-gu10-400-lumen-wireless-dimmable-white-spectrum-art-00318292/

Anyone managed to add the new GU10 Tradfri bulbs?

The reason it shows up s a “thing” is because no DTH explicitly says it can control it but you can manually assign it any DTH on the smartthings site, https://graph.api.smartthings.com i would suggest picking the zigbee dimmer or zll dimmer bulb as they handle plain dimmable bulbs

Nice one, thanks. Assigning ZLL Dimmer DTH has done the job  :+1:

@goto10, did the dh do the job. I was thinking of picking up a few of these new gu10s for places I don’t need dimming.

Yeah the standard ZLL Dimmer works a treat, they do have dimming, it’s just the colour temperature that’s not adjustable. Nice and bright though and they’ve been rock solid reliable.
I added them all one by one, then set up a virtual dimmer switch, with a WebCore piston set to adjust the GU10’s brightness when the virtual dimmer changes.

I also have the Ikea steering wheel remote linked to the lights, so I can turn them on/off etc without needing to use Alexa/Ghome/SmartThings. (I have another piston that checks one of the bulb’s levels and then sets the virtual dimmer to match, in case the Ikea remote was used to adjust levels)

Hi, I’m joining this thread as I am trying to intergate Tradfri bulbs directly to my Smartthings hub. Thanks to Edvald for creating a device handler, but as the bulbs i have are just dimmable I discover from his comments that I have to use the Zigbee dimmer or ZLL dimmer bulb device handlers from Github. I have tried both Edvald’s DH and two versions of the ZLL dimmer bulb DH. In each case my bulb is recognisesd as a Thing which I can renane but then takes me to a screen that says WAIT, and this goes on foreever so I cannot use the bulb within Smartthings. I have tried deleting,re-setting the bulb (sw 6 times) but still cannot get anything other than WAIT. Any ideas how to get past this?

Sounds like you haven’t assigned a DTH to the device, smartthings calls anything it doesn’t know how to handle a “thing”, you need to sign in to the IDE and assign a handler, go to https://graph.api.smartthings.com and select your hub the have a look at the devices section

Brilliant - that did it. I had no idea I had to do that step in the IDE. Thought installing the device handler was enough. Thanks again.

I picked up 8 gu10 bulbs and 2 remotes from ikea TRÅDFRI range, I must say they work really well.
I installed the device handler I found on this site, paired all bulbs to SmartThings Hub, then paired remote to SmartThings Hub then paired remote to bulbs I wanted to control.
Alexa controls them all and I have a virtual Switch in actiontiles to control them as well.

I got one of the new colour bulbs but the DH doesn’t seem to handle it. Is there any details I can pass to you add. Bearing in mind, I am a total noob to Smartthings

This handler is for the color temperature bulbs only, i don’t have the RGB ones but i would guess that the built in RGB bulb handlers will be able to control them. Just assign that DTH in the IDE

The RGB bulb doesn’t work with the standard RGB bulb handlers since it uses a different color scheme, but Pedro Garcia has made a DH that works: https://github.com/puzzle-star/SmartThings-IKEA-Tradfri-RGB

Works very well. Thanks a lot!!

Hi all

I’ve just started using ST and thought lights would be a good place to start.
I have 3 Ikea bulbs installed, and everything works just fine thanks to this DH.
(great work and the reason why i started considering ST and Smart Home tech at all) :+1::clap:

I have a ST-noob question though:
In the live log i get some “warn” lines when i use a scene in the app to turn on the 3 bulbs and set dimming.
If i use a scene where it doesn’t set dimming (just on/off) there are no warn’s.
Is this normal or should i be worried…?
Again - everything works - i’m just curious…

Log example with 50% dimming:

edit: Hold up on the below until I figure out a few things. Sounds like there might be a reason for the weird squares?

I created a pull request to fix the issue, but in the meantime, a head’s up for those who have been wrecking your head trying to figure out pairing the E26 980lm WS Opal to ST: There are some errant characters that were causing me headaches.

After pasting the .groovy into your ST DH panel, be sure to remove the <?> and replace with normal spaces.

Add your name to the list!

Thx Ryan

I have replaced the bad characters with a space in the DH - saved and published it.
But the WARN’s still appears in the live log. Do i have to delete and pair the bulbs with ST again, or do something else?
(sorry - i’m a rookie ST-user) :confused::smirk:

I got a few Tradfri bulbs on the weekend got them working on and thanks to developer for making the codes for this one much appreciated. The only issue that I have notice is when you dim the light to the required setting the bulbs do dim however when you click the x to exit from the dimming section its still displays 100% but the bulbs are still dimmed. I know this is minor but I though I would mention it for having it fixed in future updates.
